“Today was a hard day for my husband. He had to go to one of his best friends funerals. He has felt so much sadness, especially since they had not talked in close to 8 months. He has been so distraught all week, and today he was on the brink, with feeling so much grief. He didn’t talk much today. He was silent and trying to be strong.

We went to dinner at Applebees on Shaw here in Fresno, to meet with my mother in law, to discuss my daughters softball game. While waiting to be seated my husband (who has tattoos and to some looks like hoodlum even though he is a strong blue collar guy) held open the door for an older man, after we sat down and started eating, a gentlemen in plaid came up and patted my husband on the back said that my husband was very kind for holding the door for that old man, after that mans meal he came up and handed my husband ten dollars and shook his hand and said thank you for being such a gentlemen again, while my husband said no he couldn’t accept that, this man persisted and said “buy your self a beer on me please”. my husband graciously accepted.

To this man who I hope will find this post and read this, thank you for being such a nice guy, you did not know the pain my husband felt today but you felt after him being polite to someone he deserved a pat on the back. You made my husband smile and forget for a minute that his friend just passed, you helped him remember that being a nice guy is sometimes what counts. I hope you read this and you know from the bottom of my heart I thank you for your kindness.

“So she always comes to our Maplesville location to see me and get her Heards Baked Beans. Well today she didn't recognize our new location and I don't think she believed this was Heards BBQ. So Misty came and got me and all I heard was "MR. ROMAN" while running to give me a hug with the biggest smile. And yes she got her baked beans. Sometimes we can let business cloud our minds and make us miss the things that matter most like building relationships with people that become like family.”

In Watertown yesterday when everyone was ordered to stay indoors during a manhunt for a Marathon bombing suspect, one family asked if they could go get milk for their 16 month-old son. A policeman said no, but returned to the house delivering two gallons of milk from the store.

The toddler's father told Reddit-user ZanePerry that the cop was very humble and would not want the publicity. But posting the photo without permission gave the rest of us an "Aw-shucks" moment of warmth for the law enforcement community of greater Boston.

In England, it is not uncommon to see "wavy" brick walls. Interestingly, the design uses fewer bricks than a straight wall. A straight wall that is just one brick thick is not sturdy enough to stand alone & can be easily toppled, so they generally have a thickness of at least two or more layers of bricks, & are also . regular intervals with vertical posts serving as buttresses. But a wavy "one-brick" wall stands just fine on its own due to the arch support provided by its shape, which combines both wall & buttress. Such a structure is called a "crinkle crankle wall" "the Old English version of "zig zag." 🥰❤️

I was checking out today at CVS when an elderly man with a walker came in and asked if there was any toilet paper in the store for him and his sick wife. He had been trying to find some all day. The poor man looked like he was on the brink of tears. I felt so badly for him that I offered to help him find some, I offered to drop it off if he wanted to go home. I walked him back to his car and found his wife waiting with a oxygen tank in the car. It had taken him so long to get to the counter from the door and back to his car, I could just imagine the day he had been having. It took me almost an hour to track some down for them. Remember this when you’re hoarding all of these products and remember to check on and make sure that those who have a harder time providing for themselves have everything they need to make it through the day.

"This is my wife taking a nap. In an hour she will wake up, put on her scrubs and get ready for work.
The tools and items she needs to perform her job will be gathered and checked meticulously - her hair and makeup will be done quickly. She will complain that she looks awful. I will disagree, emphatically, and get her a cup of coffee.
She will sit on the couch with her legs crossed under her and try to drink it while happily playing with the toddler that's crawling all over her.
She will occasionally stare off blankly as we talk; silently steeling herself for the coming shift. She thinks I don't notice.
She will kiss the baby, she will kiss me and she will leave to go take care of people that are having the worst day of their entire lives. Car wrecks, gunshot wounds, explosions, burns and breaks - professionals, poor, pastors, addicts and prostitutes - mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and families - it doesn't matter who you are or what happened to you.
She will take care of you.
She will come home 14 hours later and remove shoes that have walked through blood, bile, tears and fire from aching feet and leave them outside.
Sometimes she will not want to talk about it. Sometimes she can't wait to talk about it.
Sometimes she will laugh until she cries and sometimes she will just cry - but regardless of those sometimes she will be on time for her next shift.
My wife is a nurse. My wife is a hero."

Made this rocking chair in ‘97 wood shop class when I was 14. Had no idea why I’ve kept it for 24 years. 38 now and I have finally realized it belongs to my son. Might be a dumb post, sorry, but his face makes all those years worth it.

This might just look like a picture of my man playing his game... but really it’s the man that I love finding his peace at home🔐 I see so many females whine & complain about their dude playing the game etc... To me I see peace & I see the father of my child at home SAFE & content. I see a hardworking man clearing his thoughts & doing something to escape the daily war he has within himself & surrounding situations. Some may not take my advice.. but if your dude works, provides, & stays off the streets... I highly suggest you encourage him to find his peace within the walls that you live in. I’ll sit here for hours & have conversation with him while he plays his game as long as he’s SAFE & at peace within himself & at home. He gets plates of food brought to him & everything. As long as he nourishes our family, I nourish our home & his peace.

Neorth Carolina police officers had to arrest 2 parents that overdosed in a vehicle while the child was in the car. Concerned citizens notified police and Officer Sheeley is seen consoling this 1 year old child until a grandparent could arrive. This is all too common right now. Grandparents can't even retire anymore because they're too busy raising their grandkids. Addiction has changed the family dynamic. Kids don't need to carry your burdens. It's time to get sober, your family needs you.

A lot of grade-school aged kids may have stayed away from my sister Mary or thought she was weird because she has Downs Syndrome. But not Ben. He always looked out for her, always made sure to pick her on his team at recess and even made a promise to her in 4th grade to take her to the prom someday. 7 years later, he made good on that promise and in the process put a smile on Mary's face & restored my faith in humanity. Have a great time at the prom you two!

"I'm crying with tears of THANKS as I share this with you. Here I am at Cracker Barrel with all 5 of my kids by myself. Will is working and I'm on mommy duty for the summer.

If you suffer from anxiety like I do, going out can sometimes feel like a chore.

Today, I wanted to surprise the kids with a treat eating out. I was willing to take control of my anxiety and do it. Will and I work hard on teaching our children how to behave out in public and with their manners.

As the kids went to the restroom before it was time to leave, a woman came up and asked me if 'all these kids are yours? They are so well behaved. I can't believe it.'

I proceeded to tell her they were all mine and THANK YOU. That meant a lot. It's work, but they are good kids. I also mentioned it helps A LOT that their father is a Marine and helps out so much. He's a great role model for them.💙

We chatted a little and then she went back to her table with her family.

10 minutes later our waitress Jen came up to clear our table and shared 'I just have to say how well behaved your kids are. I'm going to take your bill. It's been PAID for by a family here at the restaurant who has noticed your beautiful well behaved children. All they ask is that you PAY IT FORWARD.'

I immediately started to cry. Not because I wasn't financially able to pay for our meal. I cried because this is exactly what I do and teach my kids. Surprising people and paying for either their meal, coffee, Starbucks-etc.

God had it come back to me today.❤️ He showed me human kindness from strangers to my family. With all the negativity in the news-it's amazing how God shows you 'I'm here.'

I ask you to do something today for someone and ask them to PAY IT FORWARD.❤️

P.S. To the beautiful family who paid for our meal-The Carr family THANKS you!"

"I am a white woman and although I did not give birth to this man, he is my son. He has been my son for 14 years. I love him like I birthed him.
My biological children grew up with him as their brother. He lived in my house. I would trust him with my life and he would trust me with his.
I have watched him been treated unfairly... because of the color of his skin. I have seen him be falsely accused... because of the color of his skin.
I will stand for him. I will fight for him. I will protect him to the best of my ablity, and if I'm honest... I would want to hurt anyone who tried to hurt him.
I will never know what it is like to have brown or black skin but I do know what it is like to be a white woman who loves someone fiercely who has brown or black skin. And I know what it is like to pray every day that it will not be his last."

Today God reminded me why I do what I do! While pumping gas this beautiful girl came to my truck... tears rolled in my eyes as I looked at her, her parents and big brother... Her mom said to her do you remember your angel, why did she say this? Because just over 3 years ago I was giving her lifeless daughter CPR. She was almost 2 and today she proudly shared she is 5 and on her way to Disney! This was such a blessed reminder why I do the job I do, and beyond grateful to the amazing agency I work for that believes in top notch training for their deputies and equipment to do our everyday tasks. Enjoy your Disney weekend pretty girl, you left my heart so full

06/04/2024

"There is a diner that my husband and I both love, and hadn't been to in a couple of years, so I suggested we go there.
Now, the last time we tried to take Xavier, it was too much of a sensory overload for him. It is a busy diner, so the clatter of dishes, the music of the radio, and loud chitter chatter amongst fellow diners reverberated the scope of the dining area.
The farthest we were able to set foot in previous times was the entrance. That is, if we had Xavier with us.
I have always tried to do things with Xavier. We have always tried. Most importantly, Xavier has always tried.
My philosophy is that we can't just assume that something won't work, even if all indications point to failure. As long as we at least try, I feel like an inception is blossomed, and if we are lucky, maybe even the start of a new interest.
So, this morning, we all walked into the diner.
A waitress showed us to our booth, and Xavier nervously bounced back and forth, refusing to sit down.
I grabbed Xavier's talker, otherwise known as an AAC device. It is a tablet used for communication. I then modeled the question, do you want coffee? Bacon? Eggs?
He verbally replied, 'juice,' with obvious enthusiasm, but still hesitated to sit down.
His hands nervously gripped the table as a slight shudder became apparent in his hands.
It's OK, I said as I rubbed his back. My husband then said he didn't think we could do it.
I wasn't ready to throw in the towel just yet, though. Close, but not quite.
The next thing I knew, the waitress returned and asked if it would help if they turned down the radio.
'Yes,' I said, as I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders.
My husband and I turned to each other. There was a knowing glance of agreement as she went to turn down the radio.
This was someone who gets it.
When she returned, Xavier was still hesitating at the end of the table, but he was slowly but surely releasing his grip as he started looking around.
'Would it help if we moved you to a quieter area?'
Again, I agreed wholeheartedly.
Once we were moved, I could see the anxiety dissipate even more. He was still bouncing around refusing to sit, but his bouncing had now changed from one of apprehension to one of excitement.
The waitress then brought out a chair, seeing as how he didn't want to sit in the booth but was now showing interest in food.
My husband modeled different food items on his talker, when all of the sudden he announced, 'BACON!!!'
I laughed as the waitress returned hearing his request. I was making a comment about how excited he was when she suddenly turned around and walked away.
I knew it was busy, so thought nothing of it.
Not even five minutes later, she returned with a full plate of bacon. Again, my husband and I made eye contact as tears welled up in my eyes.
I grabbed my coffee and took a hearty gulp.
I know that we tend to get a lot of Murphy's Law instances, but it never fails that we get even more of what my grandpa would refer to as 'everyday angels.'
They are the ones that go above and beyond without even having to be asked.
The ones that see a need, and don't hesitate to act upon it.
The ones who show kindness without expecting anything in return.
The ones that bring light into a stranger's life just by showing a simple act of kindness.
Above all, it gives us HOPE for a better world for our son, and others who are uniquely perfect.
For the first time, Xavier sat in a loud diner and ate an entire meal. A meal that he himself requested.
He used a fork, and even held up a napkin when he wanted my husband to help him wipe his hands.
He delicately dipped his fries in ketchup, and sipped his ice water.
He didn't try to run or grab anything one single time.
This milestone moment? Well, we owe it to this amazing waitress, Kate.
Sometimes, all we need is just a little kindness. You just never know how much it means."

06/03/2024

"For the last 9-months, my wife, Brooklyn has been pregnant with a very sick baby boy. Three or four months ago, we learned that the baby had severe hydrocephalus. Back in the old days, hydrocephalus was called, 'water on the brain' - too much brain fluid. Ultimately, we were referred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where we were told by several of the most highly regarded fetal specialists in the country that his condition was dire. The baby's condition was 'off the charts bad'. It was so extreme that the specialists stopped measuring and monitoring his fluid level because, at that point, it didn't really matter. The MRI's were sickening to look at.
We were told, pointblank, that there was over a 90% chance that the baby would either die shortly after birth or have such severe cognitive impairments that any quality of life would be hard to imagine. We had a meeting with palliative care regarding the use of life sustaining measures and had detailed, awful, and emotional discussions about the ethics of when we might need to remove or cease such measures - which would result in the baby 'passing away peacefully'.
Brooklyn relocated to Cincinnati and lived in a hotel close to the hospital - in case she went into labor. I commuted back and forth. On July 8th, Brooklyn did indeed go into labor. Literally, 15 minutes before they wheeled her back to start the C-section, we had another meeting with doctors regarding the use of a breathing tube and at what point we might need to remove that tube and let the baby go to Heaven. Guess what? The baby came out crying - which was the sweetest sound I ever heard.
In a nutshell, Charlie Schnarr stayed in infant intensive care until yesterday - when we all came home. He seems to be a normal, beautiful baby doing all the things that babies do. He has mild ventricular enlargement, but we can deal with that with checkups.
How did this happen?!
The doctors said, 'We do not have and cannot come up with a medical explanation for what we've witnessed here'. Somehow his brain found a way to naturally clear the blockage or re-route the fluid that was causing the oppressive back up of brain fluid. During the last week, I heard the words, 'divine intervention' and 'miracle' more times than I could count. Nurses with decades of experience and esteemed, nationally admired doctors were flabbergasted but jubilant. Because of the domino effect of friends, family, clients, colleagues and even strangers praying and asking others to pray for us, I do not doubt that there were thousands of people praying for us.
I'm a practical person that certainly believes in science and medical technology, but I absolutely know, from the bottom of my heart, that God was involved in this. I give ALL of the credit and glory to Him. Prayer is positively powerful. God is real,
and He still performs miracles."

“Eight years ago ... my mother let me marry a man from South Korea, even though she had her misgivings. I am an American in every way, but went and married a Korean man.

When we came to the states, my husband did not speak English. He was unsure of himself and was not able to find a job. My parents provided a roof for us. We only had one car, my parents gave us one of their spare cars.

When we felt that we were able to move out on our own, my parents gave us a loan to buy a home. When I went back to work after my second child was born, my mother closed her business and took care of my children so that I could work full-time.

My mother has no boundaries to the love she gives. Even though we no longer live with her, she still sends home food for my husband so that he doesn't miss Korea so much.”

A toddler was crying and crying, annoying everyone in the restaurant and giving the parents a terrible night out. Then a man approached from another table... and they expected the usual rude comments. But instead, the man started talking to the little boy and calming him down. With his parents' permission, he picked him up and rocked him to sleep, and the man insisted on holding him while the parents enjoyed their dinner.

After undergoing brain surgery, Jeremy K was left with mobility challenge. When he and his wife Chelsie K found out they were expecting their first child, they were ecstatic — but the news also sparked concerns for the couple. Fortunately, a group of 10 innovative high school students from Bullis School in Maryland spent several months crafting products that would ultimately enable Jeremy — and other parents with mobility challenges — to safely stroll with a child.

My dog was diagnosed with linfoma cancer 3 years ago. I knew from the beggining that her days were counted...the doctors actually gave her maximum 12-18 months to live with treatment...
So we started this battle against time... The last 3 years everything was about her. Endless chemotherapy sessions, taking care of her, the anticipated pain of losing her...the stress and the constant fear...
And the hope...for just a little more time...
I spent all my time with her...I even gave up my job at the end to be able to give proper care for her. Nobody understood me, they thought I am crazy. So I isolated myself and it was just the 2 of us. Honestly it was more than enough and the most precious for me.
I gave everything of myself, she was my family, my best friend, my partner, my home....
She passed 2 weeks ago...
I feel how I imagined I was gonna feel...
I knew that this was gonna be living hell...
I am all by myself...with the pain...and all my heart for Her... 💔

When the Israeli women’s lacrosse team noticed that their opponents on the Kenyan team were playing at a disadvantage, they resolved to fix it.

The Israeli team beat Kenya 13-4 during their match in the Women’s Lacrosse World Championships in Ontario, Canada last week.

Though the victors were happy to have won, they noticed that the Kenyan team was playing without cleats.

With the help of tournament officials, the Israeli girls met up with the Kenyan team the day after their match and gifted them all brand new cleats.

Needless to say, the resulting joy between the two teams was particularly contagious.

After finally being given the tools to play on an even footing, the Kenyan Lacrosse Team went on to beat Belgium 16-9 for their second win in the tournament the very next day—and they were quick to thank their Israeli friends for the leg up.

“The support from all around the world for our African Queens is priceless and hugely humbling,” they added. “The attention on and off the pitch for these players is more than all the nations competing combined… and rightly so.”

"Today I was walking back from my 11:40 class. I was waiting for the light to turn red so I could cross the street. A homeless man was sitting on the curb as this guy approached the light waiting to cross the street as well. The homeless man asked him for money to get a burger (Wendy's is nearby). This college student stopped, opened up his backpack, and handed over his Tupperware container filled with grilled chicken and rice. Without even skipping a beat this guy (likely a broke college student like the rest of us) gave this man his lunch that he had packed himself for the day. He shook the man's hand and we crossed the street. I told him he had done a really nice thing and he simply replied 'That's what anyone should have done. Just gotta give back. This reminded me how fortunate I am to not only have access to meals and food whenever I want/need it but to also have a variety of options available to me. Thankful for this reminder today and thankful for people like this. The world needs more of you, stranger. Couldn't be more proud to be a Gamecock with you."

A homeless man used to camp in the covered garage where my office was located. Every night, you'd see him huddled down with his small, scruffy terrier mix. On my way to lunch, I often checked on him and brought him a burger and drink. He always split the sandwich in half, eating one half and giving the other to his dog. I started bringing him a bag of dry dog food every month, and he took great care to keep it dry. His little dog rode in the child's seat of his grocery cart wherever he went.

One particularly cold winter morning, I noticed his dog was missing, and he seemed utterly forlorn. I bought him some coffee, and he explained that the city had rounded up the homeless and taken them to a shelter because of the bitter cold, and they had taken his dog away. They brought her to the local shelter since she had no license, tags, or rabies vaccination. I was appalled.

I took the morning off, picked him up from the garage, and drove him to the shelter where we asked to look for his lost dog. When we found her, she made a racket of pure joy upon seeing him: yipping, yelping, and wiggling uncontrollably. Her paws squeezed through the chain link, trying to touch her master, and his fingers stroked her little face.

I paid for her license, basic shots, and retrieval fee. He rode back in silence, hugging her so tightly I thought he might break her. When we got out, I told him to keep her safe. He hugged me, made Sasha give me a kiss of thanks, and hurried off to where he had hidden his cart.

I understand the need to keep these souls safe, but taking his one undeniable friend—while legally founded—was gut-wrenchingly wrong on so many other levels.

Any act of kindness can change lives, no matter how great or small.

We saw this man walking to the store along Hwy 11 so we stopped. He had a walker and 1 foot. Daniel asked if we could give him a ride and the man said no thank you, that he made it this far without help. So Daniel told him that he wanted to WALK FOR HIM!! The man let him. So Daniel put him on his back and carried him AND his walker! I cried like a baby because when do we ever see human compassion anymore?! Especially in this town. But when does anyone ever take a few minutes out of their day to help someone or even just to appreciate the ones in their face?! I never see it anymore and my husband's act of kindness from his heart made me see that and it humbled me. It made me realize how big of a heart he has and exactly how far he will go for ANYONE. Not just his family. But anyone. And that is the kind of man I'm blessed to call mine and so are our children. He is the kind of man I'm blessed to have teaching and guiding my children. I love you Daniel and I thank God for you everyday.

“If anyone recognizes this man in the orange shirt, you walk up to him and shake his hand....."

Ricky Derouen posted about what happened the other day when he was in the gym.

Here's what he wrote:

The man in the orange shirt doesn't seem like the the bragging type so I'll brag for him.

While working out at Planet Fitness in Pascagoula a special needs man constantly approached him about 10 different times in a 45 minute time span with handshakes, hugs, questions, and interactions.

Not only did the man in the orange shirt smile, laugh, give him workout advice multiple times, and joke back with him while getting in his own workout, but he didn't care who was watching while doing it.

His patience, compassion, and friendliness was next level admirable.

Toward the end of the workout the special needs man approached me and pointed to the man in the orange shirt and said "that's my friend" with a huge smile on his face.

The picture isn't the best but they were the best creeper pics I could take at the time 😂 and this guy deserves recognition.

The world needs more people like this man in the orange shirt, well done sir

THIS IS ME AND MY LITTLE SISTER WHO ASKED ME TO ADOPT HER BUT MY WIFE WAS AGAINST IT. 💔

My father just died. I have a little sister, but due to the age gap, I am more like another father to her. There were two options: either I take her in, or our uncle would. I asked her who she wanted, and she chose ME.🙏

The problem was that my wife and I decided that we didn't want kids, so she DIDN'T want to adopt my sister, especially since my uncle could.

After racking my brain, I realized I had NO option but...to choose my little sister. My wife couldn't believe I made such a choice, but I couldn't do it any other way.🤷‍♂️

Do you think I was right?

When our son Tate broke his arm nearly three weeks ago, I called for an ambulance. The first officer arrived in just a few minutes and did an excellent job helping calm Tate down until the ambulance arrived. He told Tate he would visit on the first day of school to see how he was doing and to sign his cast.

Officer Miller did stop by on the first day of school, but Tate did not have a cast that people could sign yet. The doorbell rang this morning and it was Officer Miller stopping by again to check on Tate and to sign his new cast.

Thank you Officer Miller for your professionalism, kindness and service to the city of Ankeny. And, thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty to make an 11 year old boy’s day!
