The proliferation of "fake news" - and its embrace by readers (knowingly or unknowingly) - is both frightening and dangerous. Where you get your news matters.

There's always room to grow professionally. Last week I went through spokesperson training held by Dairy MAX for board members of the Texas Association of Dairymen, a client. After more than 35 years as an either a reporter or PR professional, you might not think I had anything left to learn. But brushing up on communications skills - even if you are a communicator - is always beneficial (especially when you're in front of a scary camera - and Joan!).

The ice storm that hit much of Texas turned into not only a weather disaster for the City of Austin residents, but also a PR fail for Austin government officials. Communicate, communicate, communicate!

Mayor Kirk Watson said he shared the frustrations of Austin residents left without power for days and said the city will improve how it communicates during storms.

Journalists really don't want to be at the scene of a tragedy either, but they have a job to do. I covered a few in my days as a reporter, and it's a very uncomfortable situation to try and balance the need do your job with the desire to be sensitive and as unobtrusive as possible.
