On December 4th, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced that the Texas Senate will vote on Bill 3 during the next legislative session, banning all THC products; his statement on X provides the reasoning behind the proposal: “Thousands of Stores Have Opened to Sell All Types of Dangerous Products with Unlimited THC. These Stores Even Target Your Children.” …

Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to extend his tuition freeze for another two years is a bold attempt to address rising tuition rates at the state’s public universities. With no additional state funding to offset the freeze, his proposal hinges on institutions being willing and able to cut enough excess spending to compensate for the lost revenue. Detractors allege that Gov. Abbott’s decision will ultimately force universities to take drastic cost-cutting measures, including eliminating essential academic programs, firing full-time professors, and increasing class sizes. They may be correct. Some poorly administered universities may cut essential services rather than address wasteful spending. They will fail and deservedly so. Overall, the majority of universities, unable to continue their excess spending, will be forced to streamline operations and focus on providing value to students. Gov. Abbott’s policy will ultimately lead to a more efficient and accountable higher education system that prioritizes affordability and quality...

On November 24, 2011, Justin Tucker kicked a field goal just as the clock hit zero, winning the final rivalry game between the Aggies and Longhorns, or so we all thought. It will be 13 years and six days since that demoralizing night in Kyle Field when the 12th Man tries to facilitate a different outcome. This 119th edition of the Lone Star Showdown is arguably the most important ever played. Texas enters the matchup at 10-1 overall, and 6-1 in the SEC as Texas A&M is 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the SEC…

We have a big fertility problem. As a matter of fact, this could be the understatement of the century; according to the largest worldwide meta-analysis on the matter, total s***m count (TSC) declined by 62.3% between 1973 and 2018, and it’s not slowing down—in fact, it is falling at increasingly high rates and is projected to hit zero by 2045…

President-Elect Donald Trump is causing waves with his rapid-fire Cabinet member nominations. Accused of hoping to bypass the typical Senate confirmation process through recess appointments to nominate “loyalists,” Trump nevertheless barrels forward in selecting nominees who will most efficiently further his expansive vision for his second Presidential term.

One of the most contentious developments in the Cabinet-selection process has been Trump’s formal announcement of the creation of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on November 12th. Trump released a statement on his social media platforms promoting the DOGE while simultaneously appointing tech tycoon Elon Musk and biotech entrepreneur and former Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy as co-heads of the new body…

Texas taxpayers are funding woke, politically driven LGBTQ and Gender Studies programs at public universities, leading some conservatives in the state legislature to call for these programs to be defunded.

“UT Austin is forcing you to fund a “LGBTQ/Sexualities Studies Minor,” Representative Brian Harrison posted on X. “I will file legislation to ZERO THE BUDGET of the Office of the President if [the minor] isn’t ended, ” he added…

Last week, Texas State Representative Jared Patterson (R) filed House Bill 186, which would ban anyone under 18 from social media sites. As today’s youth continue to struggle with poor social skills and short attention spans, Rep. Patteron’s bill could not have come at a better time. Inaction would risk slipping into a situation akin to the dystopian society in Brave New World...

Yesterday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This new program aims to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”

Despite being praised by many conservatives, this move was a mistake. Musk should not have been selected for a cabinet position in the next executive administration, nor should he be given regulatory favoritism that could distort the integrity of public markets…

Despite widespread Republican success in last week’s elections, both in Texas and across the United States, Austin remained a stronghold for Democrats. In the U.S. House of Representatives, incumbents Lloyd Doggett (D) and Greg Casar (D) won reelection in the 37th and 35th districts respectively. Rep. Doggett, who will now enter his 15th term, was the first Democratic Congressman to call for President Joe Biden to withdraw from running for a second term. He defeated Republican Jenny Garcia Sharon with nearly 75% of the vote. Rep. Casar beat Republican Steven Wright, obtaining 67% of the vote. The current Whip of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, he aims to chair the Caucus next term…
