THREE SHOWS IN NOVEMBER

Three different shows this month: 1) the world music of Khruangbin, 2) a repeat from 2022 of Texas Travel's list of 15 Texas musicians everyone should hear, and 3) our 5th-anniversary show, reprising our first broadcast from November 28, 2019.

That's right! We verify correct reports from listeners to our Mixcloud stream.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRITISH DX CLUB

Our friends at the BDXC have just published issue 600 of their signature magazine, Communication.

The issue contains musings about the club's 50 years and its regular complement of station schedules, loggings, and radio news centered on Europe.

TRSW Uses An Interval Signal

Long-time shortwave listeners will remember when stations transmitted an interval signal (IS), also called a tuning signal, before a scheduled broadcast. When receivers had analog dials, listeners used the IS to find the station early and tune for the best quality signal. You don’t hear (m)any interval signals today, and that’s the reason TRSW uses a version of The Yellow Rose of Texas to start each broadcast.

On Mixcloud, we revert to the old days and begin the stream two minutes earlier than scheduled. We play 20-second segments of Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops’ version of Yellow Rose of Texas, separated by seven seconds of dead air. There’s no real reason for doing this on a stream; we think it’s a fun way to begin.

AUSTIN LOUNGE LIZARDS

Occasionally, we'll recommend a TRSW show on Mixcloud.

Today's choice is the Austin Lounge Lizards. The trademarks of a Lizards song are highly literate, sharply pointed lyrics that poke fun at politics, love, religion, and culture in general.

TEXAS RADIO SHORTWAVE PROGRAMS ON MIXCLOUD

Do you know that almost all TRSW shows can be listened to on Mixcloud?

We feel bad that we've neglected to remind our fans that these programs are posted at http://www.mixcloud.com/texasradiosw/

Since our return to Channel 292, we've aired selected programs that likely weren't heard in Europe. Our first new program for 2024 will feature the music of Texan Jimmy Dean.

All our 2025 programs will be new.

In the meantime, have fun listening to TRSW on demand.

(Note that programs featuring a single artist aren't available in the US because of music royalty issues. All programs with multiple artists and old-time radio shows are available to everyone. If you're in the US and use a VPN, you should have access to all shows.)

We finalized our programs for next year and wanted you to have a look.

Were you listening for us on 9670 kHz at 0100 UTC on Sunday? Surprisingly, we weren't on.

Because of a scheduling issue at Channel 292, you instead heard programming from Radio Northsea International.

For North Americans, we hope you heard Texan Steven Stills's music on the 0300 UTC broadcast.

We asked Channel 292 to recheck their master program schedule for the rest of 2024, and we hope you'll hear our programs at their scheduled times.

USE A REMOTE SHORTWAVE RECEIVER TO HEAR US

Despite our broadcast being over Channel 292, a low-power station in Rohrbach, Germany, we want to assure our North American listeners that you can still hear us.

We suggest using an Internet-based remote receiver in The Netherlands to tune in to our programs on the first consecutive Saturday and Sunday of each month. The schedule is posted elsewhere on this page.

Please scroll down the page and set the radio's controls as shown to tune in to our 3955 kHz broadcast at 1900 UTC/ 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time for our monthly Saturday broadcast.

STRONG GEOMAGNETIC STORM: Strong geomagnetic storms are underway on Aug. 12th in response to multiple CME impacts. So far, Northern Lights have been sighted as far south as Texas, California and Mississippi. The storm shows no immediate sign of abating, and it could continue into the night of Aug. 12-13.
