Inside Government - 10/03/24 - Law Enforcement Update

Sheriff Brian Schenck and Auburn Police Chief James Slayton are the guests in the studio today to give us a law enforcement update.

We have asked them in to cover a number of issues, from school safety, that was highlighted two weeks ago in Auburn, Port Byron and Southern Cayuga to crime rates and officer involved shooting.

We also want to ask them, from their profession viewpoint, what concerns them when it comes to crime and public safety?

Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino, who has just completed his 9th month as Mayor is the guest today in the studio.

Since his last appearance, a lot has occurred from the announcement by City Manager Jeff Dygert, who will be here in three weeks that he would be retiring to passing a City Budget.

The City also received news that it didn’t want from Albany regarding Owasco Lake and also and efforts regarding area smoke shops.

Beyond the Front Page - 10/01/24 - 1st Amendment - 1st Vote

Election 2024 is in the final 36 days of what has been a whirlwind campaign this year that will go down in the history books, maybe no more so than having a female Vice President heading the ticket of a major party ticket.

Yet, the issue of gender equality in local, state or national representation falls far short of 50%, more than 100 years after women were granted the right to vote in the 19th Amendment in 1920.

One organization trying to change that, especially laying the seeds to equality is a group in its 6th year, locally, 1st Amendment - 1st Vote founded by former Auburn Mayor Melina Carnicelli.

The group seeks a “pathway to government leadership for teen girls”. In the studio today is
Lead School Mentor Jeannette Oliver-Carr and Skaneateles senior Millie Wu to discuss their organization and efforts.

In the studio today, Karen Kuhl, the Director of the Cayuga County Tourism Office and Courtney Rae Kasper, a Visitor Experience Manager at the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center across from City Hall in Auburn.

We have asked them on to talk about the book “In The Heart of The Finger Lakes – Cayuga County” a 68 page guide to tourism in Cayuga County, but also local tourism efforts and its importance to the local economy.

Inside Government - 09/26/24 - Cayuga County District Attorney

In the studio today Cayuga County’s District Attorney Brittany Grome Anntonacci.

Elected to a full four year term two years ago, she is Cayuga County’s first female District Attorney and, if my count is correct, only the County’s fourth full time DA in a little over 35 years.

Elected in 2022, she ran unopposed, succeeding Jon Budelmann, who left the position to became Cayuga County’s Surrogate Judge.

We have asked her on today to not only talk to her about her background, what her office does and her concerns, if any about crime in Cayuga County and their associated trends.

Telcom Cayuga students traveled to Whitesboro on Friday 9/20/24 to produce a high school football game live on Spectrum Sports as the East Syracuse-Minoa Spartans took on Whitesboro. The crew travels this Friday 9/27 to Skaneateles for a "LAKER SHOWDOWN" with Cazenovia!

Telcom Cayuga students & staff has continued their partnership with Spectrum Sports to produce 10 football games this season.

The students and staff were responsible for the transport and set-up of the production system and working with the professional crew of Spectrum Sports.

The games can be watched live on Spectrum News each Friday night starting at 6:30pm.

This Friday 9/20 the crew will travel to Whitesboro, to broadcast the game between the ESM Spartans and Whitesboro
