Spartan recently announced several championships for 2025, including a Super World Championship slated for California via email.

Notably, the scheduled weekend aligns with this year’s OCRWC in Mammoth, CA. With OCRWC moving to spring 2026, there’s a possibility this Spartan event could also be held in Mammoth.

However, it’s worth noting that Spartan has partnerships with multiple venues across Northern and Southern California, so this remains purely speculative. (So hold off on booking flights or hotels just yet!)

As we posted yesterday afternoon, the women's 15K course had the following finish times: Ulrikke Evensen - 1:15:24, Nicole Mericle - 1:15:45, Alisa Petrova - 1:17:19.

After the award ceremony last night, there was a challenge to those results. There was a meeting held with the athletes and a new photo taken.

However, since this was not announced by World Obstacle - Fédération Internationale de Sports d'Obstacles anywhere, and we did not see a change to the leaderboard, we are still unclear.

We will let you know what officials tell us.

Trifecta Champs Might Be Coming To The US.

Since 2017, the Spartan West Virginia event has consistently featured a Trifecta Weekend and hosted several championship races. Traditionally, the Beast course is scheduled for Saturday, followed by the Super and Sprint races on Sunday after overnight course modifications.

In 2018, the Spartan Race at the Summit Bechtel Reserve generated significant economic benefits: “In its second year, the Spartan Race held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve brought in $3.6 million in direct impact to the state. When expanded with an estimated $1 million in indirect and induced impact, that figure reaches $4.6 million. That economic activity supported 30 jobs with an annual payroll nearing $1 million and produced $66,400 in state and local taxes.”

In a departure from tradition, the 2025 race at Summit Bechtel will see the Beast held on Sunday, a scheduling approach previously observed only at the Trifecta World Championships in Greece. While the Sparta venue in Greece remains a viable option for future championships, there are considerations for potentially rotating the venue. Given its history of large attendances and proven economic impact, West Virginia could be under consideration as a new location for the Trifecta World Championships in 2025.

Early this morning, at the end of Europe’s Toughest Mudder, surprised participants by revealing a sign announcing that World’s Toughest Mudder will leave America for the first time and be held in the Midlands in 2025.

The event is scheduled for June, only seven months after WTM 2024 in Florida.

Recently, there have been rumors that some championships hosted by Spartan Race might be moved to earlier in the year to free up the calendar. Today’s announcement confirms this change for World’s Toughest Mudder.

This shift means a shorter ramp-up period for the first event, but subsequent years will have a full year of preparation.

Spartan Race has held events at Mountain Creek in the last weekend of April for the annual NJ Tri-State event for many years. This past weekend saw the biggest number of finishers since 2016.

Illustrated in the image above, you can see growth of the Tri-State weekend event.

In recent discussions within the Spartan Race community, there has been talk of a decline in interest in the sport’s elite athlete attendance (the “pro side”). Speculations for this trend include the reduction in prize money, emerging opportunities in hybrid events, and issues related to overdue payments from past races.

Despite these concerns, our observations continue to indicate a positive trend in attendance from the general public.

Compared to the same period last year (the final weekend in April), Spartan Race hosted a total of 24 event distances (Sprint, Super, Beasts, and Ultras ) across 11 markets. SoCal, Jacksonville, Arizona, Houston, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Baylor Stadium, Charlotte, San Diego, Palm Beaches, and Tri-State, with a total of 50,277 finishers.

This year, so far in the United States, there have been a total of 12 Spartan Race weekends. SoCal, Arizona, Jacksonville, Dodger Stadium, Houston, Atlanta, Las Vegas, San Jose, Charlotte, San Diego, Palm Beach, and Tri-State, hosting a total of 71,584 finishers across 22 distances.

Without more financial data, it’s difficult to say for certain, but the growing number of general attendees indicates that Spartan Race could be experiencing improved financial performance. We will keep an eye on this trend as the year progresses.
