During today’s live Pride Parade telecast, Rich had an opportunity to discuss Mr. Charlie Brown’s
new memoir, his life and his trailblazing legacy as the first drag queen to protest-march his way into Atlanta’s Pride Parade in 1980. Charlie helped to break down the barriers for today’s more inclusive, diverse and drag-friendly parade. Special thanks to Atlanta News First, Monica Pearson and the entire ANF live parade broadcast team for the wonderful “[Expletive] of the South” interview!

Charlie was looming large at our first BITCH OF THE SOUTH book-signing with Charlie’s husband Fred during Atlanta Pride weekend at the Atlanta Eagle’s Saturday night cabaret with all of Charlie’s girls on stage. The official launch party for BITCH OF THE SOUTH! We read excerpts from Charlie’s brand new memoir and toasted Mr. Charlie Brown’s trailblazing life and legacy at the historic Mrs. P’s on Ponce, one of the city’s first q***r spaces to stage drag shows, back when gay bars were frequently raided by police. Diamond Lil and Billy Jones aka Phyllis Killer were among the city’s first drag performers to grace the space 60 years ago.
As Charlie writes in his memoir, “Getting arrested was one of Lil’s part-time jobs!”
And yes, there was even a signature Bitch of the South cocktail!

Now that the BITCH OF THE SOUTH pre-orders are in the mail (THANK YOU!!), we thought we’d unveil the memoir’s Table of Contents (the book is structured like a run-of-show and each chapter is named for one of Charlie’s signature numbers or a song that proved significant in his life). Look for your copy in the mail this week! In honor of the dress Charlie was wearing when we presented her with her own bound manuscript in May 2023, your book will arrive in a brightly colored teal bubble mailer. Thank you again for your support!!

Here at AAP, we hope you are safe and made it through the hurricane OK. After a traumatic 24 hours for many in the South, we wanted to share some positive news for Charlie fans: THE BOOKS ARE HERE!! We spent the evening getting the pre-orders ready to be shipped out to you. We will have lots more updates to share next week!!

BITCH OF THE SOUTH UPDATE: The printer just notified us THE BOOKS HAVE SHIPPED! Total weight? 515.3 pounds! We have begun creating labels for everyone who pre-ordered and we will start mailing the books to Charlie’s friends and fans next week. More good news: we have ordered additional copies for those who missed out on the pre-orders (I’ll post the link below).

We’ve been notified by the printer that BITCH OF THE SOUTH is now on THE PRESS 🎉 So, we’re busy creating shipping labels for the more than 360 of you who pre-ordered! The books should ship the week of Sept. 30. On right: Ardmore Avenue Publishing CFO (Chief Feline Officer) Boo is overseeing quality assurance.
