Imagine this sliding in on your six during rush hour traffic. Wouldn't we all be a little bit more excited to commute to and from work if a Spitfire sighting was a possible occurrence? 🙋♀️🙋♂️
This particular Spitfire following us in the video is from the Military Aviation Museum. MAM’s Supermarine Spitfire MK IXE, known most often by her wartime serial number of MJ730, flew more than 100 combat mission during WWII. After a test flight by the legendary Alex Henshaw in December of 1943, she then served in the RCAF under No. 417 Squadron and in the RAF under No. 154, No. 32, and No. 94 Squadrons, seeing action in Southern France, locations in Greece, and in the Balkans. Following her service in the war, MJ730 served in the Italian Air Force and Israeli Air Force before moving through various private owners. With a Rolls-Royce Merlin 66 supercharged V-12 engine, this lovely lady really purs when she swings up next to you in flight.
The airplane is just a bunch of sticks and wires and cloth, a tool for learning about the sky and about what kind of person I am, when I fly. An airplane stands for freedom, for joy, for the power to understand, and to demonstrate that understanding. Those things aren't destructable. Richard Bach
The Military Aviation Museum is honored to
announce a $100 million donation, a gift believed to be among the largest charitable gifts from an individual in Virginia history. The gift by Gerald Yagen includes 70 vintage military aircraft that have been collected and displayed over the years. Press release to follow.
Mossies for your morning coffee!
Two de Havilland Mosquitoes fly in formation at the Central Coast AirFest at Santa Maria Aiport in California this past weekend. This sight hasn't been seen in more than 35 years. The aircraft are owned by Rod Lewis (Lewis Air Legends) and Charles Sommers, and were restored by Avspecs Ltd. What a beautiful moment!
BE ON THE LOOKOUT for our article coming out regarding the airshow and this flight!

As Australia is already mid-way through this 21st day of August, we are thrilled to share with you an original audio recording of the first public sonic boom by an aircraft over Australia. Original clips of the public broadcast (from 21 August 1953), including the sonic boom itself, can be heard in the video compilation. The airframe featured in the video clips can be visited at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Museum, Point Cook, Victoria, Australia.
The Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation Sabre, sometimes known as the CAC Avon Sabre, was
a development of the North American aviation F-86 Sabre, with a British designed Rolls Royce
Avon engine and two 30 mm Aden cannon. The first prototype, preserved today at the RAAF Museum, bearing the ‘P’ for ‘Prototype on the fuselage, was the FIRST aircraft to break the sound barrier over Australia on 14 August 1953, and the aircraft you hear in the soundtrack from the 21 August 1953.

On Sunday, August 11, the Hawaii Mars made a splash in the aviation community as it made its final flight en route to its new home at the BC Aviation Museum. But, the Philippine Mars still remains at Coulson Aviation - Next Gen Firefighting as it awaits its relocation to Pima Air and Space.
Images have been plentiful of the Hawaii Mars in recent weeks, so here's a few of the Philippine Mars at her home base during the open house hosted by the Sproat Lake Community Association a couple weeks ago.
