Fulton County approves over $640,000 for opioid treatment and recovery programs

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved more than $640,000 in opioid settlement funds for five Atlanta organizations that provide treatment and recovery services for residents affected by opioid use disorder. The fund allocations were approved during the board’s Dec. 17 meeting and draws from Georgia’s share of a nationwide settlement with pharmaceutical companies over the overprescribing of opioids. Fulton County received its first settlement disbursement back in late 2024. Funding recommendations were developed by the county’s Opioid Abatement Regional Advisory Council, which reviews proposals from community organizations and prioritizes initiatives that are focused on reducing overdoses and expanding access to care....

Welcome to Rough Cut, in which our dining team (Beth McKibben and Sarra Sedghi) offer their first impressions on the food, vibe, and service at restaurants around Atlanta.
🍣🍚🍱
Sarra and her husband recently checked out 1678 Omakase, a new Japanese restaurant located in the Town Brookhaven complex. They both ordered the 16-course omakase ($78) and paired it with choya umeshu plum wine ($12) and choya yuzu cocktail ($14). The menu is traditional, but some pieces include accoutrements like pickled wasabi, chili crisp, or yuzu juice. 1678 Omakase has three multiple-course meal options, but also includes a-la-carte nigiri in case you want to try something different or enjoy a second bite. Eventually, they plan to add more hand rolls to the menu.

💡Pro tip: If it’s within your budget, splurge on the higher-end sake or Japanese whisky. However, you don’t have to spend too much on a solid drink — a neat Suntory Toki, for example, goes for $14. Slide 3 is Sarra’s Rough Cut on the miso black cod; slide 5 is her Rough Cut on the madai (sea bream) topped with plum sauce (her favorite course of the night).
