Thank you Dr. Shaywitz. If you don't have a copy of Dr. Shaywitz's book, Overcoming Dyslexia, I highly recommend you purchase a copy. It's a great resource throughout your dyslexia parenting journey!

Dyslexia impacts how our children see themselves. It's not just academic. It's academic, social, and emotional aspects of our child - the whole child.

What is means to be dyslexic can be a positive and also hard at times. Remember your dyslexic kiddo sees your perspective before figuring out their own. Embrace your child's strengths and be there to listen on the days that his or her challenges are pushing them to his or her breaking point - they need you for both (good and bad)!

Celebrate the small and big wins with your child. The small steps equal huge change and success.

When traveling, your kids ask "are we there yet" frequently. You may not even be out of the subdivision when the kids start asking how much longer until we get there.

You may feel the same way when you are remediating your child's dyslexia. Are we done yet? How much longer?

Dyslexia parenting is a journey. Your child will not learn to decode overnight. It will take time. Take remediation one day at a time and celebrate the wins along the way.

When your child is making progress, it's time to lean in. You got this!

Listen to episode 122 to learn more!

Dyslexia will always be a part of your child, but it doesn't have to hold them back from being successful!

Don't try to "fix" your child, embrace your child's strengths, talents, and struggles.

With the proper reading instruction, intervention, and remediation, your child can learn to read. But, that doesn't have to be the entire focus of your child's education and day.

Your child will not outgrow it! And, that's ok . . . it's more than ok. Businesses are now recruiting people with dyslexic thinking. There are so many dyslexic traits that other people do not have that make them better leaders, managers, and inventors. (The list goes on and on.)

Embrace everything that makes your child who they are - dyslexic included. You got this!

Another great book I'm talking about on the podcast this week ~ Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch.

You will fall in love with Lina. She is a young girl who travels to Italy after her mom dies. When Lina arrives in Tuscany, she is given her mom's journal from her time in Italy. Lina experiences Italy through her mom's eyes and learns about love along the way.

This book is recommended for teens, but I loved it! My niece was reading the book this summer and it had such a fun cover I decided to read it too.

If you are looking for a quick read at the beach (while walking through Italy), this book is for you!

Netflix released the movie from this book this summer. I have to admit I was very disappointed. The book was, in my opinion, so much better!

This week on the Dyslexia Mom Life Podcast, I am talking all about summer book recommendations.

How Are You, Really?: Living Your Truth One Answer at a Time by Jenna Kutcher is one of my favorite summer books!!

Jenna is hands down one of my favorite mentors. She is not afraid to be herself, even on Instagram. I love her heart and it comes through in this book. Jenna has written this book as a guide to help all women reframe their lives while finding their own sense of joy and fulfillment in a world where the noise is loud and tells us who to be. Jenna helps you unpack what's going on inside of your head and find your way back to a life that you can truly call your own.

Give it a try, Jenna won't disappoint!

Honestly, it's one of my favorite books! Did I already say that 😊.

This week on the Dyslexia Mom Life Podcast, I am talking all about summer book recommendations.

The Simple Path to Wealth by J.L. Collins is a must-read. . . I plan to refer to it throughout the year when planning and revisiting my financial plans.

J.L. Collins started out by writing letters to his daughter giving her financial advice that turned into a blog and now a book. If you have ever wanted to learn more about how to save and invest for your future or teach your children about a simple way to save for their futures, this book is for you. With so many financial "experts" in the world and online, I love that the author is honest with his advice especially when it comes to investing ~ no one knows what the market is going to do - not you or the "experts". It's a great reminder to create a plan and then stick with it. Your future you will thank you.

Grab a copy of this book, it's a great resource! Link in bio.

When you first learn your child is dyslexic, you may feel pretty overwhelmed with all of the resources available. Yet, not all resources are created equal.

In today's episode, Nicole is sharing the resources available on the International Dyslexia Association's website.

We recommend that you bookmark the homepage on my computer. It's a great website to start with when you have a new question about dyslexia. The website has resources about dyslexia and information for parents and teachers.

This week on the Dyslexia Mom Life Podcast, I am talking all about summer book recommendations.

If you are looking for a book to read with your kids this summer, then this book is for your family! Hacking the Code: The Ziggety Zaggety Road of a Dyslexic Kid by Gea Meijering

Kees (pronounced Case) is a 5th-grade dyslexia boy who loves pranks. This book is a fun read with your kids. I love that the author included real-life events and feelings that many of our dyslexic kids have and how the boy copes with the challenges of being dyslexic.

Out of all the books I've read over the year with my daughter, this is my favorite. I love the characters, the humor, and the illustrations (some of the best I've seen in a children's book).

Grab your copy 📚 today of Hacking the Code: The Ziggety Zaggety Road of a Dyslexic Kid.
