when im not skating, you can find me line dancing and two stepping with my queer friends ❤️🔥 i’ve been country dancing for a lil over a year now and it has changed my life.
i was asked recently “what’s the connection between queers and country?” and i responded “EVERYTHING!!!” growing up in the south, as a queer trans person of color, who is also first generation, i never felt like i belonged. i was neither from here nor what was home. to grow up in the south as qtpoc meant not being able to embrace my country side out of fear of homophobia and violence. it happens all too often.
when i first attended a night at @danceoutatl i witnessed for the first time ever two queer people two stepping and holding eachother lovingly, knowing they were safe. i CRIED yall. that changed my life.
being queer and trans in the south is hard, but i love the south and love my queer trans souther family ❤️

i started my journey in this style of skating in 2022. i started out by going to classes that were led by instructors of this specific style and stuck with it. it hasn’t been easy at all, learning a style of skating takes dedication to technique while also maintaining your own style too. there were times where i took a step back for months and just focused on other areas of skating but i always came back.
if you’re looking to learn a certain style i HIGHLY recommend learning from someone who is an expert of that style. i know it can be hard to find someone who is able to teach and wants to teach (although i got soooooo lucky with the people who i learned and am learning from they are all so sweet and thoughtful. shout out to @__.backtokingkilla_ and @noigraushan ! ) if you can’t learn from someone, i also learned a lot from watching my friends on instagram. i’ll download videos and drill moves.
don’t let people tear you down in your journey, ive been told SO MANY TIMES that im a bad skater and that i should give up. people who don’t see your potential, are incapable of seeing you and your light. leave them in their dark.
