My Grandma Laura was more than just a grandmother; she was a spiritual matriarch who spoke life into every corner of our lives, especially into our marriage.
She had a way of making everything feel personal, even down to how she’d say, “Hiiii, Terrrrreeennnccceee!” with so much warmth and joy.
Though she was a single woman, she held marriage in the highest regard, always speaking the Word of God over Terrence and me, as well as over our children, Genesis & Journey.
When Genesis was born, she said, “That’s my little worshipper.” And when Journey came along, she declared, “She’s bold—let her light shine never dim that light!” She's going places
She saw the gifts in our children's and always encouraged us to cultivate them. She knew raising children wasn’t always easy, but she believed that with God’s presence, and foundation of faith she would say watch how God work through you too
Terrence and I didn’t have a big wedding—it was just the two of us. But Grandma didn’t see the size of the celebration; she saw the foundation.
She told us, “Make sure the love of Christ is present in your marriage.” And she meant it.
She also had a way of reminding me to keep my priorities straight. Often, she’d cut our conversations short, saying,
"Get off the phone It’s time to spend time with your man.”
Her marital wisdom was always timely, always impactful, and it will always stay with me.
This picture was taken at our baby shower in New York for Genesis.
I still remember her saying,
"I’m so proud of you. You did good—he’s handsome!” Of course, she was talking about Terrence, and she wasn’t wrong.
The countless phone calls, the late-night talks, and the wisdom-filled “mic drops” are things I will cherish forever.
Grandma's love for her family and her unwavering faith left a mark on all of us.
As Terrence and I continue to walk out The Vision For Us, it is our prayer to build the solid family foundation she instilled in me as her granddaughter.
May we cultivate Genesis and Journey’s gifts, just as she cultivated the gifts in all her grandchildren and family members.
May she rest in peace, knowing her legacy of faith and love lives on.
We love you, Grandma. You will be truly missed, but your lessons, prayers, and love will guide us for generations to come.
