Seldom, we have the opportunity to know a person who is a life changer. Meet Oscar McFarland. He is the husband of Mary and father of two, Brush Baptist Christian, baseball player and avid fan, spam loving, strong limbed, bright eyed, quick witted, generous, sharp minded, joyous, encouraging, Retired Army sergeant from 1964 to 1989 with two years (1965 - 1967) spent in Viet Nam and has a great love for animals! His love has most recently been recognized with a new title! Texas Animal Control Association Presidential Citation recipient for service above and beyond as an Animal Control Officer! For 37 years, Oscar McFarland has served some of our most vulnerable residents, our animals. If you're like most of us, dogs are, more often than not, better than people! Oscar believes this too. His kindness and gentleness to our animals has led his passion for helping and protecting those who cannot always protect themselves. We citizens of Mabank take our hats off and humbly recognize the impact Oscar McFarland has made and continues to make in our city. Oscar restores hope in the one truth we sometimes loose sight of. One man CAN make a difference. Oscar is a great American. A patriot. A reminder that when love leads passion, obstacles become bumps in the road along the way. Oscar McFarland is on the job today. Doing what he has always done in a way that inspires us all. Congratulations Mr. McFarland! You honor us all with your service, sacrifice and commitment to making our city and the world, a better place! We are proud to call Oscar McFarland
