At last week’s City Employee Holiday Luncheon, the City of Athens recognized Gene Lattis for 30 years of service.

Gene has been a member of the Athens Fire Department since Sept. 1, 1995. Three decades of service is a rare milestone in city government, and it speaks to his commitment to this community and to the people he serves.

“Reaching 30 years of service is a big deal, especially in city government,” City Manager Elizabeth Borstad said. “Employees like Gene provide experience and leadership that you just cannot replace. His long service shows the pride and professionalism of the Fire Department and the value of public service.”

Congratulations to Gene on 30 years with the City of Athens, and thank you for your continued service to our community.

Important Update on Kemp ISD Accountability Rating

We're pleased to share that following our successful appeal to the Texas Education Agency, our district accountability rating has been updated to a C for the 2024-25 school year.

"We're encouraged by this positive change, which better reflects the hard work of our students and staff. While we celebrate this progress, we recognize there's still work ahead, and we remain committed to continuous improvement for every student in Kemp ISD," said Superintendent Dr. James Young.
