Jerry "The Geator With The Heater" Blavat a legend that no other will ever top. A fan favorite and a personal favorite of mine. One of the biggest influences in promoting oldies music as a Disc Jockey and a radio host. His way of being an MC changed the game in the industry. Born in South Philadelphia he became a local icon. His love for music and Philadelphia was so strong that he brought people of all race together to have a good time.

He starred on the original Bandstand with Bob Horn and Lee Stewart as well as managing a national tour for Danny and The Juniors. He introduced many acts including The Isley Brothers and The Four Seasons. Beyond music he also guest starred in a few TV shows and movies.

He opened his night club in New Jersey in 1972 calling it "Memories" where he would continue to bring people together with his music.

The best part of his set was the fact he never used a play list. In fact he refused to follow a play list stating "He plays music from the heart, not a list that he researched". That's what made Jerry unique. The way he would talk to his crowed and set the mood for his next song was amazing. He will truly be missed by everyone.

In 1988, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole called the recording studio at 3am and said he has to record a song right away. 15 minutes later, Israel arrived at the studio. The studio owner, Milan Bertosa said, "And in walks the largest human being I had seen in my life."

“I put up some microphones, do a quick sound check, roll tape, and the first thing he does is 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.' He played and sang, one take, and it was over."

Today, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version, is the most requested one of this classic song.
