Kentucky Power Storm Preparations
Thursday, September 26, 2024 – 4:30 p.m.

Weather
A strong storm system, residual weather from Hurricane Helene, is expected to impact Kentucky Power’s service territory starting tomorrow morning through the late afternoon. The large weather system could bring frequent 40-50 mph wind gusts and heavy rainfall. There is also potential for tornadoes, specifically in the southern part of our service area. These factors are expected to cause utility problems, especially in our mountainous and heavily forested areas where the ground is already saturated from previous rainfall.

Storm Preparations
Kentucky Power personnel and business partners are pre-staged and ready to assess damage and restore power as soon as it is safe to do so. The company is prepared to secure additional crews to assist if necessary.

How Customers Can Be Weather Ready
Customers are urged to prepare now for potential power outages and to always have a storm kit on hand. Being prepared ahead of the storm is the first step to keeping your home and family safe. Have a plan for receiving weather alerts and tornado warnings should internet connectivity become an issue.

Kentucky Power advises anyone using an in-home medical device that requires electricity, or medications that must be refrigerated, to have a backup plan in case outages occur. Please ensure a backup plan is in place for elderly and ill family members and friends.

Stay Safe! An emergency outage kit should include the following at a minimum:
A charged cell phone with a battery backup
Flashlights and fresh batteries
A first aid kit and important over-the-counter medicines

If you see a downed powerline, always assume it’s energized and stay far away. Call 911 and Kentucky Power to report 1-800-572-1113.

For more safety tips, visit www.KentuckyPower.com/Safety.
