According to stats, less than 10% of the debris from Hurricane Helene has even been cleared yet. Less than one mile from my house, the Swannanoa River and its banks are still covered with gnarled steel, buildings, what remains of houses washed far down river. People are still living in RVs, some tents, and some families share homes with others who lost everything in this part of town.
In a world where news cycles work in 2-week increments, we ask that you don’t forget about Western North Carolina. We still need eyes on this area to continue to receive vital aid, especially when temps are dropping to around 15 degrees at night. We will get through this, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint. 6 years ago we set out on our first shoot together, after promptly winning an Emmy we thought, well sh*t, maybe we should do this more often? This last summer we made it official: Stephan + Dave = Fiasco Media. And what a year to get that going it was.
2024 wasn’t all bad, but it threw us for a hell of a loop there at the end. 😵💫 But shoutout to this year’s grind — we crushed it and couldn’t be more hyped about everything we accomplished, including our whole team now, thanks to everyone who has shot for us and our first official employee RaeAnne, as well as Audrey who keeps everything going on the admin and social media side.

Barnardsville after Hurricane Helene
I took a drive to my hometown of Barnardsville about a month ago, a full month after the storm. Admittedly, I've been avoiding it a bit other than sending supply runs there, just because I knew seeing the places I grew up playing in the Big Ivy and farmland I ran around all over would never look the same again. It's tough reckoning with a landscape that means so much to you that won't ever be the same again, but at the end of the day, all my family made it, and that's what matters most.
