When people think of the future of end-of-life psychedelic care in America a few places that come to mind are Portland and Boulder. Why not Asheville?

Though Asheville was recently devastated by Hurricane Helene, it is a perfect setting to develop, grow and scale an end-of-life psychedelic care community. Just as Asheville has exemplary offerings in the realm of community-supported grief care and community-supported end-of-life care, we also have the opportunity to be at the forefront of a community-supported end-of-life psychedelic care movement.

What would that look like?

Could a community-supported end-of-life psychedelic care clinic open in Asheville in 2025?

Could Asheville become a destination for terminally ill people to receive end-of-life psychedelic care in community?

What is possible over the next five years if Asheville becomes a hub for (and leader in) community-supported, end-of-life psychedelic care?

As the great Buckminster Fuller says: "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

The time for dreaming, visioning and planning starts now.

For our next IPD talk we’re gonna be rocking the repartee with Zoe Allison-Rockingbear!

Zoe is a visionary artist who is known for creating images that blend earthly and celestial symbols with designs of ancient cultures.

During her career, Zoe has served as an instructor and professor at Washington State University, University of Idaho, Columbus State University, and Auburn University.

Zoe is the author of the Mayan Record Keeper: An Almanac of the Days, and is recognized as a medicine woman in the Oklevueha Native American Church and a water-pourer in the Native American sweat lodge tradition.

In 1986, she founded the Earth Green Medicine Lodge here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where she and her deceased husband, Will Rockingbear, have led vision quests since 1990.

Zoe currently teaches drum creation workshops throughout the United States, and leads retreats in the Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Peru.

She is a fire-keeper at the Center for Conscious Living & Dying, a jewelry-maker, a dedicated surfer and skier, and a world-class trickster.

Afterwards there will be a special screening of “The Last Ecstatic Days” with Dr. Aditi Sethi and director Scott Kirschenbaum.

We are honored to announce that our next Institute for Psychedelics and Death conversation will be with Prema Sheerin. A traditional healer, wisdom keeper and dream tender, Prema is one of the leaders of the Elder Council at the Center for Conscious Living & Dying and hosts events on her land at Willow Moon Farm in Weaverville, North Carolina.

Our conversation on “Psychedelics, Death and the Other Side” will take place at Warren Wilson College at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 9th. The event is free and no RSVP is required.

The Institute for Psychedelics and Death, impact parter of The Last Ecstatic Days, recently hosted a “Psychedelics, Death & Storytelling” discussion with Vince Kadlubek and Leonard Pickard, world renowned L*D chemist.

In this clip Vince discusses the ego death that can happen during the psychedelic experience, which has been shown to be incredibly therapeutic in psychedelic-assisted therapy with terminally ill patients.

Next up is an in-person conversation with Eric Rooney outdoors in the booming, blooming embrace of Fall foliage! For 24 years, Eric Rooney has been passionately caring for nature and humans through regeneration as a farmer, community-builder, story-teller and death doula. Based in Colorado, he works with green funeral homes to return human compost and water cremation fertilizer to Earth at his farm Half Moon Farms. He is the founder of the non-profit Regeneration Earth, which promotes education and advocacy for peoples' choice in death. He is also the caretaker of the Sage House healing home, offering holistic services where the terminally ill can die with autonomy and dignity.
