*Can a 16 or 17 yr. old go to their pediatrician, without a legal guardian present and ask for their blood to be drawn to see if they have an infection? N O

*Can a 16 or 17 yr. old go to their pediatrician, without a legal guardian present and ask to get their throat swabbed because they think they have strep throat? N O

As I have mentioned several times before, the North Carolina Dept. of Health and Human Services states, “A CHILD IS ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.”

NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL STATUTE 7B-302

NC why do you contradict yourself? Do NOT allow 16 and 17 yr. olds to donate blood. Make the age 18 NO EXCEPTIONS!

SB782 Must be 18+ to donate blood in North Carolina

04/08/2023

Friends please call your SENATORS and encourage them to pass SB782.

☎️ ☎️ ☎️ ☎️ ☎️

Senate Bill 782 ONLY allows individuals 18+ to donate blood. NCDHHS STATES A CHILD IS ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.

🔞 🔞 🔞 🔞

Ben’s death could have been prevented. Other families should not lose their child to death in this manner.

💔 💔 💔 💔 💔

Blood donation businesses have stated they get most of their donations from high school students. LOBBYIST & BLOOD DONATION BUSINESSES, just imagine if it was your child or grandchild that died……….you can’t.

💵 💰 💵 💰 💵 💰 💵 💰 💵 💰

Sincerely,
Ben’s grieving family

Hi! Thank you for all the support regarding the petition for SB782. https://chng.it/xjg7bzC6Hk

Under current law, North Carolina allows any person age 16 or older to give or donate blood without parental consent. Senator Ralph Hise and Senator Julie Mayfield introduced Senate Bill 782, which would raise the age without parental consent from 16 to 18.

***Unfortunately, the bill did not proceed through committee but is anticipated to be reintroduced once the General Assembly reconvenes at the beginning of 2023.***

Please help change the law in NC where an individual must be 18 or older to donate blood. Please continue to share this link. We currently have almost 1000 signatures.

Other ways to help would be to contact your state representatives and senators and urge them to support this bill when it is reintroduced.

All residents of North Carolina are represented in the United States Senate by both Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis. Representation in the NC House, the NC Senate, and the US House is determined by district. Each resident of the state has one representative in each of those legislative bodies,...

Ben registered to be an organ donor the day he got his driver learner’s permit. On Sept. 5, 2017, Ben succumbed to his traumatic brain injuries after enduring a painful brain surgery to control two brain bleeds (requiring an estimated 65 staples!!) We then waited in the hospital for an additional two days while LifeShare of the Carolinas found recipients of Ben’s organs. Most of you know, Ben donated blood on Sept.1 at a school blood donation drive and then fainted hours later causing the fatal traumatic brain injuries. Ben had just turned 17 yrs. old and started his senior year at Mitchell High School.

Below is the 2017-2018 LifeShare of the Carolinas

(Contact your Senator to support SB782-you must be at least 18+ in order to donate blood.)
