Teen-Beat is an independently owned, operated, and distributed organisation which has been in existence for over 25 years. Teenbeat helped ignite the American indie revolution in the 1980s and 1990s. Known for its DC based indie-guitar-pop and bands such as Unrest, Tuscadero, Versus, and Air Miami. Teen-Beat has also released records by experimentalists Gastr Del Sol, 1960's icons The Feminine Com

plex, +/- {Plus/Minus}, and more recently Fang Wizard, and Cotton Candy. Unrest's Mark Robinson formed Teen-Beat while at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia (just outside Washington DC) with friends Andrew Beaujon (Eggs), Tim Moran (Unrest), Ian Zack (Thirsty Boys), & Phil Krauth (Unrest).

Coinciding with the 2026 World Cup, 4AD is pleased to present two alternative World Cup anthems from Air Miami and Colourbox, packaged as a special double A-side 7” single entitled Complicated Opposition, with artwork designed by Chris Bigg featuring photography by The Douglas Brothers.

Air Miami - “World Cup Fever” (1995): Originally released on the band’s 1995 Me. Me. Me. Album. Came to be during the summer of 1994, when Mark Robinson joined Blast Off Country Style on tour, coinciding with the U.S. hosting the World Cup for the first time. Said Robinson: “During the day, we’d do the things that indie bands at the time would do — go to thrift shops. One day, I bought football cleats and bright blinding orange polyester coach’s shorts. They started calling me ‘Coach’. At a show in North Carolina, I was sporting my new outfit, complete with a matching bright orange Teenbeat shirt. Esther Oliver came up to me and said, ‘You’ve got World Cup fever!' That stuck and was the inspiration for the song.” Remastered by Pete Weiss.

Colourbox - “The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme” (1986): A bonus track from the 1986 CD reissue of the band’s self-titled debut mini-album. Originally intended as a football theme and was even considered for the BBC’s World Cup Grandstand during the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico (though, it was unfortunately not used). Remastered by Kevin Vanbergen.

The Stars Are Insane is considered one of the best albums ever recorded. Unrivaled by any other and certainly one of the, if not the, best album by this incredible band. Recorded at Studio Red in Philadelphia with Adam Lasus in March of 1994. Released just six weeks later on the Teenbeat label in May of that same year, this record put Versus on the proverbial map. Guitar hero Richard Baluyut. Indie-rock icon Fontaine Toups. Unparalleled drummer Ed Baluyut.

This edition arrives in an all new package — designed by our own Teenbeat Graphica team — that took six years to complete. This is the first time this record has been available on the ever-popular 12" vinyl LP format since the 1990s. While the original vinyl release of the album featured only 11 of the 12 songs that were included on the compact disc, this new deluxe edition puts all 12 tracks back where they should have been all along. It will be pressed on color vinyl and come inside this bright full-colour jacket, an innersleeve on heavy stock featuring the original album cover art, a new label design, all wrapped on the spine with a very special OBI card. Each of these twelve musical masterpieces have been restored and remastered by Scott Anthony of Storybook Sound.

In addition to the phonographic vinyl record deluxe package, we are also printing a 32-page book featuring photographs of the band during this era. Printed on heavyweight 100lb. paper, measuring approximately 6 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches. Most of these images have never before been seen by the human eye.

If that wasn't enough, we have created an enamel pin with the new album cover art in red, blue, white, yellow, and shiny metallic silver. It will be paired with a backing card and encased inside a plasticine envelope.

Pre-order now and your record and / or book and / or pin will ship to you in 2026 when the album is released.
