Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a non-profit organization that provides hand-made single or bunk beds to children who don’t have a bed to sleep in. Founded in Idaho in 2012, SHP now has over 270 local chapters nationwide. There are 19 chapters in Wisconsin, with Grant County being one of them.
I interviewed the Co-President of Grant County’s program, Leon Neuheisel, on how SHP works in their county and the high demand for beds for kids. Neuheisel is spreading the word about SHP and hoping other counties will follow Grant County’s lead in building beds for kids who don’t have a bed to sleep in.
Neuheisel will be the guest speaker at the next Dodgeville Kiwanis Club meeting on Tuesday, July 9th beginning at Noon at Dodger Bowl to bring awareness. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The following story will give you a better understanding of how SHP works locally. You can also read the full story in this week’s Dodgeville Chronicle.
If you live in Grant County and have children ages 3-17, you may be eligible. To learn more visit www.shpbeds.org/chapter/wi-grant-co. On Facebook search for Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Grant County.

Another solid performance by Jen Wellnitz-Krogman's Argyle/Pecatonica Girls' Basketball team as they beat Wauzeka-Steuben in a Sectional Semi-Final game last night 69-50 at Richland Center. The Argyle/Pecatonica Girl's Basketball Team is ranked #1 in the state in Division 5. Jen Wellnitz-Krogman, a former standout player at both Black Hawk High School and UW-Green Bay, is their head coach. And the cool thing is, she gets to coach her sister who is a freshman on the team. Jen and Brooke sat down with me to do an interview earlier this week on a few things...what its like coaching your sister and being coached by your sister, The Wellnitz family of athletes, coaching the first-year co-op team that is Argyle/Pec, a team bonding trip to UW-GB early in the season, the great fans at Argyle/Pec, and getting prepared for Wauzeka-Stueben Thursday night in a first-round sectional game. We hope you enjoy the story.
And you'll want to pick up a copy of the Pecatonica Valley Leader or The Dodgeville Chronicle for a more in-depth look at this story - plus all other stories, photos, and stats of this past week's local sports action.
