About a dozen animals at Wisconsin Lighting Lab, Inc.’s 3D printer farm are well fed and producing a bountiful harvest.

The employees at WiLL, which develops and produces light poles, LED lighting systems, wireless lighting controls and electric vehicle charging pedestals, have named the 3D printers at their Fond du Lac headquarters in honor of beloved dairy cows from their childhoods. If the WiLL team wants to prototype a new part, engineers can simply send the job to Billy or Porkchop.

“We got into [ ] just trying to think outside the box and kind of pushing against what the general standard was for parts that we were looking to make,” WiLL Co-founder and Vice President Tyler Oestreich says.

In this month's Insight on cover story, we dive deeper into and how it is being leveraged in the region, with additional insights from NWTC, Coex3D and Nicolet Plastics LLC.

The year 2025 has arrived, and with it comes the beginning of a new era for U.S. higher education: the enrollment cliff, a sharp and continually sharpening national decline in college attendance due to decreasing birth rates and COVID-19’s impact on educational attainment.

In 2022, the UW System recorded its lowest head count enrollment. And while some small gains were made system-wide this year, the macro trend is declining enrollment for the foreseeable future. Learn how the UW System plans to move forward in this month's Insider: https://loom.ly/9HKHTCU

Krier Beverage's JOLLY GOOD Soda was named The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin last October in Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce - Wisconsin's Chamber and Johnson Financial Group's annual contest. The win cemented the Random Lake company’s decision to take the nostalgic soda brand to new heights this year. Heading into 2025, Krier Beverage has big plans to grow the Jolly Good brand that currently makes up a small percentage of its business, says Senior Vice President of Business Development Zach Malin.

“We are taking that brand equity, the history of a brand that’s 58 years old, and proliferating that through other states … to grow the brand for what it really deserves.”
