Alton Loveless With the Lord

Dr. Alton Loveless, world traveler and ministry leader, is now home with his Lord and his wife. Dr. Loveless modeled servant-style leadership in every role he occupied with a sharp mind, business savvy, and relational graciousness. His loving interaction offered a father/grandfather figure for many he led through the years.

Alton, a native of Conway, Arkansas, began preaching in 1955 at age 17 and was ordained as a Free Will Baptist minister the very next year. He attended Hendrix College and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (now Randall University) and later a Masters of Christian Leadership and a Ph.D. in business administration from Columbia Pacific University.

Loveless pastored four Free Will Baptist churches in Arkansas and Missouri from 1955 to 1970. From 1970-1974 he served as a field representative, Christian education consultant, and the national marketing director for Scripture Press Publications. Dr. Loveless returned to denominational leadership when Ohio named him executive secretary in 1974. For 19 years (1974-1993), he assisted Ohio pastors and oversaw the state bookstore.

During his tenure in Ohio, Dr. Loveless served 12 years on the Sunday School Board (Randall House), ten years on the Historical Commission as Chairman, and a term on the Foreign Missions Board (International Missions); he was president of the Free Will Baptist Bookstore Association for 18 years.

Following the retirement of Dr. Roger Reeds, Alton stepped into the role of President & CEO of the National Sunday School and Church Training Department of the National Association of Free Will Baptists (later known as Randall House Publications). He provided nine years of much-needed business acumen and a ministry mindset that carried Randall House forward, building on the legacy of the leaders who came before him.

Dr. Loveless was known for conducting numerous training seminars for churches and conferences. As the second of three CEOs in the nearly 70-year history of Randall House, his tenure was pivotal, setting the stage for the transition to D6 and generational discipleship.

Dr. Loveless published more than 1,300 articles and conducted over 950 seminars in 38 foreign countries and 48 states. Current Randall House CEO, Dr. Hunter, notes, “Randall House’s legacy comes from several great men who paved the way: Dr. Roger Reeds, Winford Davis, William Mishler, Harrold Harrison, Malcolm Fry, Jonathan Thigpen, Jim Lauthern, and—without question—Dr. Loveless. I learned much from Dr. Loveless, and he was my biggest champion when I succeeded him in March 2002. We maintained a great friendship through the years and kept our annual breakfast meeting at Bob Evans each year during the Ohio state meeting.”

After retiring, Dr. Loveless started his own publishing company to aid and assist authors in self-publishing ventures, and he has released over 230 books. In addition, he mentored and influenced scores of people during his lifetime.

Alton and Delois Loveless shared nearly 60 incredible years of marriage and ministry. They were proud of their two sons Randy and Steven and their families.

Randall House is accepting donations in memory of Dr. Alton Loveless to continue his legacy of training churches.

—Ron Hunter Jr., Ph.D., CEO, Randall House & D6 Family

As excited as I am about the National Convention, I was heartbroken to learn my good friend and mentor Alton Loveless passed away this morning after a long struggle with his health. Doc was the one who took a chance on me as an inexperienced young editor. So grateful for his long friendship and glad I had the opportunity to visit with him two weeks ago. Please be praying for his family.

ONE Magazine Wins Nine National Awards

Lancaster, PA—The Evangelical Press Association (EPA) presented nine awards to ONE Magazine including an Award of Excellence and eight Higher Goals honors during the 2023 convention held April 12-15 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Randall House & D6 Family Ministries publications also were honored this year.

The 75-year-old press association, which draws members from hundreds of evangelical publications, helps define journalistic standards for Christian periodicals, news outlets, and online mediums, honoring publications that excel in writing, reporting, art, and design.

EPA seeks to provide ongoing inspiration, instruction, and opportunities for networking to strengthen today’s evangelical publications. Free Will Baptists publications and personnel have been active in the organization since its founding.

“While we don’t write and design for awards or recognition, it is always encouraging to see the hard work of writers, editors, proofers, and designers validated by the greater Christian community,” ONE Magazine Managing Editor Eric Thomsen noted. “We are honored to receive these awards and inspired to continue the level of publishing excellence that prompted them.”

ONE Magazine has won more than 125 awards since it began in 2005, but 2023 marks the highest one-year total to date.

Executive Secretary Eddie Moody offered his congratulations: “Free Will Baptists have enjoyed ONE Magazine for nearly two decades now. This year’s awards are an indication that the greater Christian community also recognizes the value of this magazine. How wonderful to see ONE Magazine honored for excellence, biblical exposition, and promotion of unity. Free Will Baptists can be thankful to Editor Eric Thomsen and the entire ONE Magazine team for the excellent magazine they are producing.”

IM Inc. News Release - A Good and Faithful Servant Enters into the Joy of His Lord

On Friday, February 17, 2023, Brother Carlisle Hanna was welcomed into his Savior’s arms.

Clint Morgan, General Director of IM, Inc., shared, "Few men have impacted a country, a people, a denomination, and the world of missions like Brother Carlisle Hanna, better known as ‘Uncle' by the people of India and those who knew him best. If ever a missionary gave of themselves completely, 'Uncle' did. For 70 years, he served the Indian people with compassion and passion. He never felt he could give enough or do enough. He has been honored in many ways by people and mission organizations. None could come close to capturing the welcome ‘home' he received this morning as he left this earthly home and went to be with the Lord he loved shamelessly, shared joyfully, and served willingly."

Join us in praying for Brother Carlisle’s family during this time. Don Hanna, his son, stated, “Thank you for your love for him and our family through the many years. We covet your prayers for our family here and in India and ask that you help us as we seek to continue the work that he and Mother gave their lives for.”
