By simply pulling up the long evergreen lined drive that leads to the studio, you'll sense the stresses and worries that plague the creative process drain away. However, this oasis is completely outfitted with state of the art technology you'd only expect to find in New York, L.A. Built in 1975 the studio's exterior was trimmed to merge with the natural surroundings. Inside, it was custom built to

famed acoustician George Augspurger's strictest specifications. Solid Sound is staffed by people who love their work.* They have chosen to live and work in a smaller city because it enables them to structure their lives and work to get the most enjoyment out of it. Their enjoyment shows in a friendly and relaxed style that rubs-off on musicians and singers. Being musicians ourselves we've experienced what it's like to be the recording artist. This knowledge allows us to make the recording process all the more comfortable. Over 30 years have passed and Solid Sound is still the premier facility for those who will accept nothing less than the best for their art.

When we opened the new studio some items were never checked off the to-do list. I remember working all night to wire more inputs into the patch bay when the first shake down session that was supposed to be a trio… called and casually let us know that they’d be bringing in an octet the next day instead.

One of those items was that I never trimmed out the control room window…. Just quickly threw a blanket up over it, called it done and moved on.

Today I felt like I had to do something with my hands, something tangible. Make a change that I could see.

Figured that blanket served us well for the last seven years. Might as well make it official.

Tape Transfer Tuesday! Baked some old Scotch tape and threw it on our MCI JH110A. This gem served as a archival machine number 3 for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra before heading down to Blevins Audio for a once over. It’s been our main 2-Track mixdown and transfer deck for the past ten years.
