“When I started with GCI as a contractor 15 years ago, my colleagues became my Alaska family.

I moved to Alaska in 2007 from West Virginia when my girlfriend, now my wife, was offered a job here after pharmacy school. Since I love hunting and fishing, the choice to come to Alaska was easy, and I never looked back. I became a full-time employee in 2023, as a senior supply chain specialist at the GCI warehouse.

Every day I help manage shipments and supplies across the state. It’s amazing to see the materials we process reach even the most remote communities. Seeing a photo from Deadhorse and knowing, ‘I shipped that part,’ is pretty cool.

The team I work with is the most diverse, unique working family I’ve ever been a part of. I truly look forward to going to work every day. We’re constantly spending time together playing softball, bowling, or going out together. My boss, Chris, always says, ‘One team, one fight.’ It’s a motto I live by. If one of us fails, we all fail, and we all succeed together too. That teamwork, combined with the tools GCI provides to grow and collaborate, has been the most rewarding part of my job. I don’t set limits for myself. I just want to keep growing.”

Kevin is a senior supply chain specialist and has been working with GCI since 2007. When he’s not shipping essential materials across Alaska, he’s hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors with his family, or at his favorite restaurant, Double Musky Inn in Girdwood!

“When I started with GCI in 2005, I remember my dad, a medevac pilot, asking me when he’d be able to use his cell phone in Bethel. At the time, my answer was, ‘I don’t know.’ Not long after, I found myself in Bethel and the surrounding villages, selling cell phones. In 2025, I’ll be working with our business customers in Bethel and the surrounding villages, selling fiber internet. This is something I never would have thought possible 20 years ago. Witnessing this transformation has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

From managing wireless resellers to helping launch rural wireless networks, I have seen firsthand how network advancements impact lives. My career has truly grown alongside Alaska’s connectivity. What we are doing with the Bethel Native Corporation now in Bethel with the AIRRAQ Network is groundbreaking. Delivering fiber directly to homes at the speeds and prices available in urban Alaska is a testament to GCI’s commitment to the region.

In 2008 and 2009, I had the unique experience of putting the first cell phones into people’s hands in rural Alaska communities. These weren’t smartphones like we have today, but they represented a huge leap in connectivity. Seeing the excitement on their faces as they gained access to that kind of communication for the first time was unforgettable. Last summer I traveled through the Aleutians connecting people to fiber for the first time. Seeing their excitement and understanding the impact this technology has on things like education, healthcare and opportunities in general makes all the hard work worthwhile. That sense of connection and progress is what drives me every day.

At GCI, I have worked under great leadership and have been given strong mentorship. I’m grateful for the relationships I’ve built throughout the state. I’ve met people and made friendships I never would have without the opportunities GCI has provided me, and I truly cherish that. The opportunity to connect with so many communities and help bring them the technology they need has been an incredible journey.”

Adam is a commercial sales manager and will be celebrating his 20th year with GCI in October 2025! When he’s not working, you’ll find him outdoors skiing or mountain biking, making the most of Alaska. At home, he’s likely cooking with his longtime girlfriend or queuing up a Pandora station full of 90s jams, his go-to music for any mood!

In 2025, we’re working harder than ever to bring affordable fiber-based internet to new parts of Alaska, ensuring even the most remote communities have access to the opportunities connectivity provides.

In early 2025, Bethel will become the first community connected to the AIRRAQ Network, bringing high-speed, affordable fiber internet to the region for the first time. This connection will transform how the community accesses education, healthcare, and business opportunities, laying the foundation for a brighter, more connected future. ⚡️

Meanwhile, our work in the Aleutians continues as we expand our fiber network to deliver internet speeds and prices on par with Anchorage. This project is paving the way for lasting opportunities that will benefit families, businesses, and entire regions for generations to come.

We’re turning what others call “impossible” into the everyday, bringing our network to some of the most remote communities in the nation.
