42 years ago today, Universal Pictures released FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH in 498 theaters across America. Believe it or not, the film was initially given an X-Rating by the MPAA due to the graphic nature of the s*x scene between Jennifer Jason Leigh and Robert Romanus. In an effort to get it lowered to a R-Rating, the director (Amy Heckerling) cropped out Romanus' p***s in order to placate the puritanical powers that be. Another fun fact about the movie is that it was written by a talented rock journalist named Cameron Crowe, who would go on to direct Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, and Singles. As for the rest of us, Fast Times holds a special place in our hearts, due in no small part to Phoebe Cates' legendary red bikini scene. Aloha, Mr. Hand!

Anchorage drivers - you might have noticed that there are a lot of ramp closures going on. These are part of the Central Region Guardrail Inventory and Upgrade project and are essential for maintaining our roads and keeping them safe. We had originally put out some posts about all of these ramp closures, but we wanted to give you an update since some of the CLOSURE DATES HAVE BEEN EXTENDED. Read below for the most up to date info and to see the detours. Check 511.alaska.gov for updates!

The southbound on-ramp from International Airport Road to Minnesota Drive (Walter J. Hickel Parkway) will be CLOSED nightly from 9PM to 5AM through Tuesday night, June 25. To 🟢 DETOUR 🟢 around the CLOSED ON-RAMP continue on International Airport Road and turn onto C Street, turn onto Dimond Boulevard, and re-enter Minnesota Drive headed north.

The Eagle River-bound on and off ramps to and from Bragaw Street will be CLOSED nightly from 9PM to 5AM through Friday night, June 21.
To DETOUR around the ON-RAMP there are two options depending on where you start:
🟢 Head north on Bragaw, turn right onto Mountain View Drive, and enter the Glenn at Boniface Parkway.
🟢 Head south on Bragaw, turn left onto Debarr Road, turn left onto Boniface, and enter the Glenn.
To DETOUR around the OFF-RAMP, continue toward Eagle River on the Glenn and exit at Boniface Parkway.

The JBER-bound off-ramp from the Glenn Highway to Muldoon Road will be CLOSED nightly from 9PM to 5AM through Friday night, June 21.
🟢 To DETOUR around the CLOSED OFF-RAMP, continue on the Glenn Highway toward JBER, exit at JBER/Richardson, and then re-enter the Glenn Highway headed back toward Anchorage.
