Warriors! We need your help.

Volunteers are needed to help cut, split, and stack firewood for this year's Winter Preparedness Project - 28 & 29 Sep, 10am-4pm.

There is a need, and that need is BIG, to provide firewood, snow clearing and basic comradery to veterans throughout rural Alaska. As we get geared up for the start of winter, we urgently need your help to get ready to push out and serve these isolated veterans.

For more info, contact the Alaska Warrior Partnership at (907) 312-7229 or go to alaskawarriorpartnership.org.

Veterans, Advocates, Friends, Family and everyone in between - Contact your elected Representatives in D.C. and ask that they support HR 4335, VALID Act (in the House of Representatives side) and S. 2496, VALID Act (on the Senate side). You can google their contact info. Let’s fill up their inboxes. If you need help with contact info, let me know. I’ll get it to you!!

VAREP-South Central Alaska is in Washington DC this week to advocate for veterans on Capitol Hill.

This week, we’ll be meeting with Congressional staffers and presenting VAREP’s 5-Point Plan. Part of that plan includes getting the VA Loan Informed Disclosure (VALID Act) bill out of committee and onto the floor for a vote. The VALID Act would add specific verbiage into a currently mandated Informed Consent Loan Disclosure that would show VA Loan costs side-by-side against other loan types. It would provide full transparency to veterans when using their VA home loan benefit and put the veteran in the driver’s seat when choosing which loan type to use to purchase a home. It’s a simple ask and we think veterans have earned the right to know the benefits of using the VA Home Loan Guaranty. Even though it seems like a no-brainer, we are still facing opposition on the Hill.

Our Call to Action: PLEASE contact your elected representatives in DC and ask them to get behind the VALID Act.

In the House of Representatives, ask that they co-sponsor H.R. 4335.

In the Senate, ask that they co-sponsor S.2496.

Thank you for your assistance! Together, we can get this done!

We Are VAREP!

Stop your scroll!! Take a Quick Hot Minute to send a note to your Rep in DC. AFSA is working to move legislation (HR 1282 - Maj Richard Star Act) that would change the current law that takes away $1 in military retirement pay for every $1 in VA disability rating compensation for vets rated 40% and under (Concurrent Receipt). Currently, 50% and above is Concurrent Receipt. The Maj Richard Star Act would extend Concurrent Receipt to all VA disability ratings. The form is pre-filled out for you. Just add your name and address and click send. Couldn’t be easier!!!

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE |

Today, AFSA as part of the STAR Act Working Group, took part in meetings with congressional staff about how we can waive the CUTGO rule that is preventing the Major Richard Star Act from being included in the NDAA.

You can help support the Major Richard Star Act by sending a letter to your representative which can be easily accomplished via our VoterVoice campaign found here: https://www.votervoice.net/AFSA/Campaigns/114954/Respond

More detailed info about the bill can also be found by visiting the link provided above.

The MatSu Is Winter Preparedness project is looking for firewood to build up their supply to help veterans in need. If you know of someone that can provide up to 4 cords of good firewood at a reasonable price, PM me please.

We’ve got a veteran sister in Sutton in need of firewood today. If you’ve got a nearby connection please message me. Cost will be covered. We’re just out of good wood in storage to delver.
Thank you.
Also. If you or someone else you know has a decent supply, we’re looking to purchase at least four cord at fair market price to respond to the needs out here. And the need is growing quickly among our senior veteran populace.

Veterans, This. Is. Bu****it.

Don’t fall for deceptive ads like this. Not all lenders offer the VA HELOC (Home Equity Line of Credit) program so a lending institution might, let’s say, create a social media campaign to walk vets off of a HELOC and onto their refi loan product, complete with higher interest rates and hidden fees. It matters who you work with! Use a lender that specializes in VA Home Loans. If you need recommendations for top notch lenders, hit me up in the DMs.

“Warming Hearts: A Community’s Resolve to Support Veterans in Need”

In the heart of the Matanuska Susitna borough of Alaska, the chilling reality of winter can be unforgiving, especially for those who have bravely served our nation. Tragically, last winter saw the loss of four veterans who succumbed to exposure inside their own homes after losing heat. These heroes silently battled the cold, never reaching out for help, and ultimately paid the ultimate price. Their stories have sparked a compassionate response from several veteran non-profit organizations this winter, as they unite to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Recognizing the pressing need, these organizations have come together with a shared mission: to stockpile firewood and fuel that can be deployed swiftly in emergency situations. It’s a collective effort to ensure that no veteran in the Matanuska Susitna community faces the harsh winter alone. This initiative not only provides a practical solution to immediate heating needs but also stands as a powerful symbol of solidarity among those who have served our country.

The stark reality of the veterans’ silent struggles underscores the importance of fostering a community that watches out for one another. By pooling resources and coordinating efforts, these non-profits aim to create a safety net, ensuring that no veteran is left without the warmth and support they deserve. This winter, as the cold winds blow, the community stands as a testament to compassion, resilience, and the unwavering commitment to honor those who have sacrificed for our freedom.

As the firewood and fuel stockpiles grow, so does the hope that this collaborative effort will not only provide physical warmth but also kindle a flame of awareness and outreach. It serves as a reminder that, as a community, we have the power to make a difference and offer a helping hand to those who have given so much in service to our nation.

If you are a veteran, or know of one, that’s experiencing a crisis staying warm this winter, reach out for help. Go to alaskawarriorpartnership.org and click the “Connect with Us” link.

The Alaska Warrior Partnership is a community-based program dedicated to empowering Alaska's military veterans, their families, and caregivers. The program is currently conducting proactive outreach.

I asked ChatGPT to tell me 5 ways that a veteran homebuyer could use the VA Home Loan benefit to build generational wealth. This is what I got:

1. No Down Payment Requirement: Veteran homebuyers can leverage the VA Home Loan’s unique benefit of requiring no down payment. This allows them to preserve their savings for other investments or financial opportunities, contributing to long-term wealth-building.
2. Competitive Interest Rates: VA Home Loans often offer competitive interest rates, making homeownership more affordable over time. The lower interest rates can result in significant savings on mortgage payments, enabling veterans to allocate funds towards investments or retirement savings.
3. Refinancing Opportunities: Veterans may explore refinancing options, such as the VA Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loan (IRRRL), to take advantage of lower interest rates. This can lead to reduced monthly payments, freeing up additional funds for wealth-building strategies.
4. Home Appreciation: Purchasing a home in an area with potential for property value appreciation can contribute to generational wealth. As the home’s value increases over the years, veterans can potentially pass on a more valuable asset to future generations or sell it for a profit.
5. Rental Income Potential: Veterans can use their VA loan to purchase multi-unit properties, live in one unit, and rent out the others. Rental income can be a source of passive income, contributing to generational wealth accumulation while also helping to pay off the mortgage faster.

Remember, the key to building generational wealth is not only in the initial home purchase but in making strategic financial decisions over time.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Thanks ChatGPT!
