In Juneau, the avalanche risk remains high following a weekend of heavy rain and snowfall.

As of Monday afternoon, officials lifted the evacuation advisory for most residents—except those in the Behrends neighborhood. Centennial Hall remains open as an emergency shelter for anyone who still needs it. Dozens of people and pets stayed there over the weekend.

Crews have already removed up to three million pounds of snow from roofs across the city.

Deputy City Manager Robert Barr warns that more challenging weather is on the way.

"We are concerned about an upcoming weather event starting tomorrow and going into Wednesday, where we're expecting more rain and freezing levels to rise above 2,500 to 3,000 feet, which could very likely increase our avalanche risk," Barr said.

Officials continue to urge residents to sign up for emergency alerts to stay informed as conditions change.
