A wedding cake is the traditional cake served at wedding receptions following dinner. In some parts of England, the wedding cake is served at a wedding breakfast, on the morning following the ceremony. In modern Western culture, the cake is usually on display and served to guests at the reception. Traditionally, wedding cakes were made to bring good luck to all guests and the couple. Modernly however, they are more of a centerpiece to the wedding and are not always even served to the guests. Some cakes are built with only a single edible tier for the bride and groom to share.

Wedding cakes can certainly range in size, from a small cake that feeds ten people, to a very large cake that will feed hundreds, all depending on the wedding. Modern pastry chefs and cake designers use various ingredients and tools to create a cake that will reflect the personalities of the couple. Marzipan, fondant, gum paste, buttercream, and chocolate are among some of the more popular ingredients used. Along with ranging in size and components, cakes range in price. Cakes are usually priced on a per-person, or per-slice, basis. Prices usually range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars per-person or slice, depending on the pastry chef hired to make the cake. Wedding cakes and cake decorating in general have become a certain pop culture symbol in western society; many TV shows like Cake Boss or Amazing Wedding Cakes have become very common and are trending in today’s popular culture.

Videos of choreographed wedding dance routines can go viral online.

It's become trendy in recent years to liven up a wedding with choreographed and often unexpected dance routines. Many couples seek professional choreographers to create engaging routines. These types of routines can help set the tone for your wedding and loosen up your guests so that they'll want to join you on the dance floor. Whether you're dancing as a couple or with your wedding party, a surprise routine can make your wedding stand out.

How to Prepare Your Wedding Dance

Down the Aisle

One way to surprise your guests is to change up the traditional wedding procession. This will immediately let your guests know that this is a less conventional wedding. You can dance your way down the aisle instead of walking down the aisle and choose upbeat, popular music instead of a wedding march. Involve the rest of your wedding party in the choreography as you make your way to the altar. Choreography can be done as you leave the altar as well.
First Dance

The first dance as a married couple is another moment that is usually slow and serious but can be made unexpected and exciting with upbeat dance music. You can make your dance more of a surprise by starting off slow dancing to a romantic song and then having the music suddenly switch to a dance song. You can even include the sound of a record scratching and pretend to be surprised before breaking into your routine.

Entire Bridal Party

Your reception offers many opportunities to have a choreographed dance with your entire bridal party. You can choose an unexpected yet familiar song, such as an old school party or hip-hop song. The goal of this type of dance is to have fun and entertain your guests. Bridesmaids can be paired with groomsmen for choreographed partner dancing, backing up the bride and groom. The choreography can also be divided to showcase just the men or just the women for a section. Gender-centric songs and co-ed duets can work well for this type of lighthearted dance.
Dances with the Parents

You can also update the wedding custom of dancing with the parents. The father-daughter and mother-son dances can be fully choreographed with less serious music as well. Like the first dance, these dances can start out traditional and surprise guests by becoming more upbeat. Older dance hits that both the parents and children are fans of will work well for this type of dance and appeal to a crowd of various ages.
