"When it comes to soloing, Vinnie suggests guitarists start by taking inspiration from solos and melodies played on instruments other than guitar."

This is a great suggestion. It will help get you out of playing typical guitar patterns and possibly play more melodically, or at least less predictably.

The first time I heard Jeff Beck I actually didn't know it was him. When I was a kid my mom had a tape of Rod Stewart's Greatest Hits and I remember hearing his version of "PEOPLE GET READY." I wasn't much of a guitar player at that point, but I could tell there was something special about whoever was playing the guitar like that. I listened to it often. It wasn't until years later I learned who Jeff Beck was and that it was him playing on that song.

He truly was un-copyable! But I hope to record a tribute cover in his memory in the near future. I'll certainly share that whenever it happens.

Jeff's unexpected passing is also a reminder that we never know when we will meet our maker or when someone we love might no longer be with us. Might I suggest we allow that sobering thought to prompt us to cherish our loved ones more deeply, make amends with whoever you need to, and most importantly- GET READY by seeking the One who said “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” - John 11:25-26

On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.
