To save another week of work, an executive decision was made to cut off the worm eaten occlusion.
Then more sanding with 40 grit ensued on both top and bottom sides, and the live edges.

Hours of sanding, beginning with 40 grit sandpaper on a random orbit sander.

Due to the Very hard wood, the 40 grit looks like 120 grit on softer wood, like Oak!!

We had planned to fill the large void with epoxy. Time constraints changed that plan, as you'll soon see.

Dry fitting dowel connectors. Flattening attempt with #5 plane was completely futile on figured Ash. ...dang, is that wood Hard!
