Black student’s parents are outraged over the Sumter County School Board’s unprecedented approval for the Furlow Charter School to relocate from its present facility to the Sarah Cobb building. There were disruptions and serious inconveniences for Sumter Primary, Elementary School, and the Intermediate school. Pre-K and 1st Grade were moved from Sarah Cobb to Sumter Primary.

Montgomery County grand jury indicts more than 85 bus boycott leaders and charges them with violating a statute barring boycotts without just cause on Feb. 21, 1956.

Sumter County Commissioners Spend Big Money Against Blacks | The AmericUSumter Observer

The AmericUSumter Observer has learned that John Barnum IV, a counselor at the Sumter County State Prison, has filed a discrimination lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, Albany Division against the Sumter County Prison, Georgia Department of Corrections, Warden Jimmy Colson, and County Administrator Bill Twombly. Barnum filed the lawsuit after being bypassed for a job promotion given to a white male who was less qualified.
