WBGZ broadcasts local news, sports, and talk, primarily for the greater Alton, IL, area. On the air since 1948, the station was originally known as WOKZ, until it was changed to its current call letters in the early 1980s. It has a 24 hour local news/talk format with two hours of local talk each weekday, a morning and afternoon drive show, local weekend programming, coverage of local high school s

ports, a popular outdoors show, and other various programs. In 2015, it added an FM signal at 94.3, joining the 1570AM which greatly enhances it's nighttime presence in the market. Then in early 2020, the FM home of The Big Z moved up the dial to 107.1FM, and 94.3 remained in the family as MyMix 94.3 FM. WBGZ can be heard primarily in Madison County, Jersey County, and southern Macoupin County in Illinois, and eastern St. Charles and northern St. Louis County in Missouri.
