In this third episode of the Creator Check-In: The Struggles with Creativity, I talk about editing and marketing. At the beginning of this journey, I didn’t have the financial capacity to purchase the software I used in college, so I resorted to stock software. Being an interview based show, I relied on Zoom for that component. As I did more interviews, I felt more prepared to do it in person. Before that could happen, I had to slowly make investments. Once the episode was released, the strategy to market the episode was nonexistent. When the episode release schedule shifted, a marketing strategy took form. All the gears were operating at full capacity and the creativity was starting to flow, then tragedy struck.

In this second episode of the Creator Check-In: The Struggles with Creativity, I speak about the next, and one of the most important, steps in the process of creating a podcast - the interview. Growing up, my dad was very talkative. Talking was never a problem for me, but having a guided conversation was a new challenge. In this episode, I talk about my research process and how I begin to visualize the interview. I open up about some early struggles I had conducting these interviews, accepting my voice and my space filler words. Next episode I discuss the editing the episode and the countless hours dedicated to that stage.

Introducing a new mini series for the Keoni Chats podcast called Creator Check-In: The Struggles With Creativity. I had always wanted to be a guest on someone’s podcast and tell my story. Since that wasn’t happening, I decided to take the initiative and dedicate this mini series to my creative process. Before I dive into my creative process, I speak about this latest break and the life updates that happened. In this first episode, I open up about the origins of the Keoni Chats show and the unrealistic high goals.

When I decided to take a break from the Keoni Chats podcast show, my main goal was to get more practice with my camera. My first practice session was giving media coverage to Caleb Herzberg and Ethan Walker during two of their basketball games in their summer recreation league. Full album sets are available on my website through the link below.

After Josh Stofiel (from Evoke Solutions) learned of some medical news regarding his father and his own future health, he reacted in a destructive manner. Josh would do drugs, alcohol, and spend time with the wrong people. It took being arrested, and an unusual punishment by the police officer, for Josh to change the path he is on.

Josh Stofiel (from Evoke Visual Solutions) always struggled with education. When Josh was younger, he had a hard time connecting with the lessons and found himself falling behind. This caused him to question his intelligence and doubt his ability to make it through school. It wasn’t until later in his adulthood that he was able to connect the dots, get his GED and change his world.

Evoke Visual Co-Founder Josh Stofiel joins me for this week’s Keoni Chats. I met Josh at my last job within the print industry. When Josh came in, he hit the ground running as I would always see him running around from his desk to the warehouse. Josh and I would have small interactions throughout the work day and they would always be so lively and fun. Josh opens up about his family lineage and his deeper ties to the print industry. We talked about his upbringing and when trouble started finding him. He went to some extremes to distance himself from trouble and his tactics towards stress.

With the NFL Draft this Thursday, I thought this is the best time to release my first full mock draft. The last mock draft I released was only on the KCM Sports podcast show and focused on the top 10. In this entry, I will be focusing on picks 1-20. I still wrote a full first round mock draft and released it on my website. While releasing an audio and blog version of my mock draft was difficult, it did make me feel more like an NFL Broadcast Analyst and that was exciting. Both audio and full blog post is in the links below.

When I discovered that Brian Weber became a Police Officer, my initial thought was of curiosity as to how he got there. As everyone experienced the rollercoaster of 2020, another curiosity that sprouted was how this would affect Brian in his day to day work life. This was a topic I had to ask Brian and his response was spot on.

Brian Weber is a Police Officer for the city of Astoria, OR. That is where he is but that wasn’t where he was planning to be from the start. Brian’s path to law enforcement was faced with rejections, unclear answers and creative thinking. While he could have followed any of the alternative paths into a career, he opens up about sticking with his decision and how he is growing from it.

With Adam Becenti’s position in the State of Oregon, he has to redefine the term “work life balance.” As the Director of Tribal Affairs, his work is his culture. A person with that title trying to provide support to their community (with all of the available resources ) sounds like a heavy task for any person. I speak with Adam about how he keeps going. He opens up about new techniques he is trying to help maintain the balance.

When Adam Becenti was hired by the State of Oregon, some of his childhood friends jokingly gave him a hard time. He would receive a response like “fight the man from the inside.” Given the history between the government and Indigenous people, Adam opened up about his approach when it came to starting his work with the State of Oregon. He knew he had to be evolve his mindset if he wanted to make progress.

Following KCM Sport’s introductory series of the NFL Roster Breakdown, I wanted to bring one of my blog series to this podcast show. Introducing my NFL Mock Drafts. I plan to release two more entries but with the last entry covering the whole first round. The Mock Drafts will still be released through my website (keoniconlu.com) in written form.

Adam Becenti joins the two-timers club as he returns for this week’s Keoni Chats. Adam’s first episode aired in 2020 and focused a lot on his participation in the Black Lives Matter movement and other community causes. Adam is a Tribal member of the Navajo Nation. He is the Tribal Affairs Director at Oregon Department of Human Services. One aspect of Adam that always sparked my curiosity is how he keeps his work separate from his culture. We talked about that separation but also how he opens up his culture to other people. An example of this is his involvement in the Indigenous People Paddle Day. In my time of knowing Adam, he always reached out to spend time with you. He opens up about his drive to make that connection and how it stems from his culture.
