I AM NOT M@D

EPISODE 1

"Daughter of a m@d man, get up" Tayo my classmate called at the top of his voice, and the whole class busted into laughter as I slowly stood up in the class with my head bowed in sh@me.

"Kneel down there! be on your knees!!" Our class teacher, a corp member screamed at Tayo and he fell on his knees immediately.
" How dare you call her that? What has come over you? You will be on your knees till the closing bell is rung" He added, pointing his cane at Tayo who was already in tears, and he walked up to me.

"Amina, please don't be offended. I asked him to help call you when I raised my head and saw you lost in thought after calling you severally without a response" The teacher said with a hand on my shoulder.

"It's fine sir" I said with my head still bowed, tears wouldn't stop streaming down my face.

"What exactly is wrong with you? I have been asking you this but you haven't been saying anything. You're too young to be this way" He said and immediately, he turned to look at the pupils who all sat with eyes glued to us.
"You know what? Let's talk after school"

"Ok sir" I said wiping my tears with the back of my hand.

I sat back on my wooden chair slowly, the pupils still wouldn't stop staring at me, but with their mouths covered this time so they wouldn't be caught laughing by the teacher.

I sat there thinking about Papa, Papa was never this way but he totally lost it after Mama's death when I was just two years old. Papa is not m@d, I wonder why everyone keep saying that he's m@d, or is it because our house is by the community refuse dump? Or because Papa laughs easily with people even when slapped?

After school, I waited behind and the teacher came to me, asking me why I had been so moody and lost in thought.

"I know you're always like this but today is something else. What exactly is wrong with you Amina?"

As soon as I heard that, I sighed and then raised my head.

"It's about my father. I don't know why people keep saying that he's m@d when he's not. Another thing is, I don't even have books to write and we don't have money"

"Oh I see! Was that why you didn't write?! " Asked the teacher, and I nodded my head, tears dripping down.

"It's fine Amina, I will get you some books tomorrow" Said the teacher with a smile and on hearing that, my jaw dropped in awe.
By Blessing- Enejo Abrahams Elleywrite's.

"You will?" I asked with both hands covering my mouth.

"It's nothing. And as for your father, he's not m@d, he's just being funny. Most times when we lose something so dear and precious, we react differently to the p@in, I think that's what's wrong with your father. The de@th of your mother must have really touched him"

"Yes" I managed to say cleaning my tears.

"Come on, cheer up, you're just ten years old, you shouldn't be worried about some issues cos of your health"

"Thank you sir" I said on bended knees.

That afternoon on my way back from school, I watched as my father was being sang to by some children in the neighborhood, screaming and clapping their hands, and my father too was in their midst dancing and laughing so hard.

"Dance for us" The children would say repeatedly and my father too would dance without stopping.

I slowly went to him, grabbed his hand and he followed without hesitation. Our house was just by the community refuse dump, a one room zinc house which was built by Papa when I was very little. I sat him before our house and I squatted before him.

"Papa, why is everyone calling you m@d when you're not?"

"Don't mind them, of course you know that I'm not m@d" Papa said with a grin, his long moustache almost covering his mouth and his hair was so full that it was gradually turning into dread locks.
"Wait, I made you something delicious" Papa said hurrying into the house and returned with something that looked like leafy concoction in a plate. I took it but I couldn't stop staring at it.

"Come on, eat, you will like it" Said Papa, and I nodded.

Well I had no choice, so I picked the leaves one after the other and I ate. It didn't really taste as b@d as I thought.

A few minutes later, Aunty Jessica, the daughter of one of our community chiefs arrived carrying a flask.

"Amina, you're back" She said with a smile. I greeted her and she handed me the flask.

"The most beautiful girl in the world! Don't worry, I will marry you someday when I finally make money" Papa said, and we all laughed...
