Time outs stopped working for us. So after I caught myself avoiding disciplining him because it was ineffective, I sat down with my husband and came up with a new two-part privilege-loss system.

When your little one goes through a new phase sometimes it's time for new tactics. Here's what we did when time outs stopped working

After your little ones go to bed at night, what do you do? Enjoy a book while sipping some hot tea? Settle down for a mini-binge of the newest Netflix show? Or do you spend a considerable amount of time picking up toys and putting your children’s possessions back in order?

The Sunday Box has a catchy name and is easy to use! It helps teach kids about toy clean up and teaches them responsibility for their things.

Once a month, someone comes to my house and cleans up after my family. There was a time when I was embarrassed about this. I felt like paying someone else to clean was the easy way out–that I should be able to keep up with things on my own. I don’t feel that way anymore.

There is no shame in getting help with cleaning your home. Moms can't do it all, and it's okay to prioritize your other roles.

Moms deserve love. They don’t deserve to be judged because raising children is not easy. As a mother, we are like CEOs of our own little family. We have to be adaptable to the changing ages, stages, preferences, and emotions of our children. Moms are constantly having to delegate tasks and make decisions all day long.

Moms deserve to be showered with love, compassion, and understanding. There is no room for judgment with the demands of motherhood.

𝙒𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙨.

Both my husband and I had work trips that overlapped, and we dreaded being away from our daughter for so long.

Kids grow so fast, and we knew that even in just a couple of weeks, she’d learn new words, new skills, and we’d feel like we missed so much. And yet—we chose to stay away for three days longer than we had to.

We almost canceled these extra personal days because we felt the weight of being apart from her before we even left. But instead of canceling, we recalled that before we became parents, we made a promise: to model a relationship where we prioritize each other.

We want our daughter to grow up knowing that a strong partnership takes proactive care, intention, and commitment. We want her to see love in action—not just through words, but through choices.

So we stayed and enjoyed San Diego. We slept in, ate good food, laughed, and reconnected. And when we returned home, we weren’t just parents who missed their child—we were a couple who nurtured their relationship so they could be better parents.

Taking time for your marriage isn’t selfish. It’s an investment—not just in each other but in the foundation our children grow from.

The traditional gender roles portrayed in society drive me bonkers sometimes. A few months ago, I came across a news story about a CEO who was leaving his job so his wife could pursue her career. At first, I thought, “Cool, what a supportive husband.” Then I thought, “Why is this a news headline?”

My husband recently changed careers in order to support my career aspirations. Why is this a headline anytime a man does something like this?

When I think about teaching the history of African Americans to my African American sons, I am reminded of the importance of highlighting so many great men and women. I want them to know their history isn’t just slavery, but about victory, courage, and so much more. I also want them to learn things in the home. That is where I believe education begins.

By teaching our children about Black History, we can help them love better, be kinder, and fight harder than the generations before us.

Valentine’s Day. A day of love and sometimes . . . controversy?

My “ba humbug” attitude towards Valentine's Day continued into college. That is until I met my husband and he showed me I was someone special.
