I’ve always loved college football because of the student-athlete. It was about getting educated and making a plan for a person’s future 1st. Sports was a way to finance that plan and to learn sportsmanship skills that paralleled life skills when you became an adult. And IF you excelled in the sport, then maybe you could get into the big leagues, but you still valued the education and the game more than the possibility of being a pro athlete of even being paid for you’re likeness. But once again, the love of money taints another true art form.
This upcoming season, in my opinion, will be the post era of the true student-athlete at least for football. It’s why Saban finally retired from Alabama. He understood what the future of college football was gonna be. It wasn’t what he was doing it for. But much like Ford’s assembly line that revolutionized the industrial age, Nick built the blueprint on how to recruit money-makers into college and then the NFL.
