KINDNESS CHALLENGE: The Church of the Holy Spirit in East Greenbush has a Social Action Ministry with 25 members and their main goal is to support existing organizations such as Circles of Mercy, Conserns-U, Joseph’s House and Shelter, Emmaus House and the South End Children’s Cafe.
On Dec. 12, the group, in taking up the diocesan Kindness Challenge, assembled 40 Christmas Goodie Bags for the children at the cafe. Each bag was filled with gloves, socks, a toothbrush, comb, tissues, ChapStick, pencils, handmade snowflakes and an ornament for their tree at home, chocolate and oranges. They also donated eight board games to the cafe. This is just one example of what the group is able to accomplish and they have many more regularly scheduled events to help those in need.
Participants in the Kindness Challenge can send their stories/actions of kindness to [email protected], and share them on social media with the hashtag . Stories and photos can also be sent to [email protected] and will be published in The Evangelist

KINDNESS MATTERS IN ACTION: Parishioners from St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Cherry Valley stand alongside a dozen large bags of winter coats and clothes. They were collected over two Sundays and will be donated to the Family Service Association in Oneonta, a private local non-profit human service agency with programs designed to assist area residents in need.
