The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord was celebrated across the Diocese of Albany on Jan. 12. At the Parish of Mater Christi in Albany, children who were baptized in the last year came forward during the Mass to receive a special blessing from Father Peter Murray. After the Mass, the parishioners gathered in the church lobby for baked treats and conversation. (Cindy Schultz photos for The Evangelist)

Ravena Knights hold first National Spaghetti Day Supper
The Knights of Columbus of Ravena — Mother McAuley Council 3424 — held its first National Spaghetti Day supper on Jan. 4.
The Knights of Columbus held the spaghetti supper from 3-7 p.m. at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall (4 North Clement Ave.) in Ravena. The National Spaghetti Day supper, which is a first for the Knights, drew 60 people and filled the hall. Proceeds from the event went to support the ongoing mission of the Knights of Columbus, which is to render assistance to the ill and the needy while offering Catholic men a place of fellowship. The event was organized and managed by the Knights of Columbus with assistance from the Ravena Columbiettes and other volunteers.
“Our spaghetti supper was a big success and demonstrates the continued value of in-person events,” said Greg Darlington, Grand Knight. “Since the pandemic, many organizations have decided to go with takeout fundraisers. Those events are great and provide a good meal, but they don’t foster the sense of fellowship that communities like Ravena need. Many people in our community were able to come together and break bread over a homemade meal, and I’m glad that the Knights of Columbus can help continue to bring people together.”

Great video shot by photographer Cindy Schultz on Jan. 5 of the Jubilee Year 2025 procession/pilgrimage from Historic St. Mary's on Capitol Hill to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which opened Jubilee Year 2025 in the Diocese. During the procession, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger and the faithful offered petitions and sung "We Three Kings," "Gloria in Excelsis Deo," and "The First Noel."
