The temperature on the valley floor this morning was -14 F, with a slightly warmer temperature of -8 at the visitor center. In most years, the valley floor will drop into the -20s F at some point during the winter, and occasionally into the -30s F. The average low in January on the valley floor is -2 F. The record low temperature for the valley is -50 F in 1948.

Applications for Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area 2025 Youth Walking Tours are now open for youth participants. Program will be held on Fridays beginning April 4, 2025 and ending June 6, 2025. Students will be trained in the following: self defense, public speaking, CPR/First Aid, and interviewing. Training sessions are mandatory and 75% attendance is required. Stipends will be based on attendance and participation. Applications are due March 3, 2025.
