The Devil Strip

The Devil Strip Akron news, arts, music and culture. Here to help you connect with your neighbors, understand the city, contribute to civic life, & have some fun along the way.

We think Akron's creative community--from our artists and musicians to our small businesses and emerging tech sector--has been overlooked too long. Overlooked by outsiders, insiders and the West-/East-/South-/North-siders. But just as we try to highlight all the cool folks and the cool stuff they're doing, we are committed to shining a light on the things we think might hold Akron back.

An update. Sorry, folks.

Hi, Devil Strip Cooperative Members! Did you get your newsletter with the official election results? 75% voted to affirm & support the remaining board members to secure the future of the Devil Strip publication and the Devil Strip cooperative. Even better, many of you offered to help.
This week, we are reaching out to a number of strong candidates who have volunteered to help.
Our next meeting will be Nov. 17, during which time we will update members on the process of building an interim board, as well as securing legal & financial counsel to advise on next steps.
If you have questions or need assistance with membership, please email [email protected]

The Devil Strip is still committed to making Akron a better place to live by connecting you to your neighbors, our city and a stronger sense of shared purpose. We wouldn't do this without you (we couldn't do this without you).

Greetings Co-Op Members,
We are currently tabulating the results of the vote. Thank you to everyone who participated. We need a day or two to verify the results. Preliminary results show that we have received 338 responses and the majority of those responses voted in favor of ballot questions #1 and #2. The official decision will be made once membership status is verified, and this will take a few days. The large number of votes despite no quorum makes us confident the engaged members want to explore the options to move forward.
We know that this is not ideal that we didn't reach quorum by the deadline, but we understand from the bylaws that we have the power to appoint members to the board to fill vacancies. We want to proceed in logical and practical ways to appoint new board members and continue our efforts to provide clarity and information on next steps for the Devil Strip with professional legal and accounting advice.
Thank your for your patience.

Things have not gone as expected, but know that the Devil Strip is not done just yet. We, the last standing members of the board, are not ready to quit. We are honoring our commitment to the Devil Strip and to you, the community. It sounds like you do not want us to quit either. We need $75,000 to get through 2021, which will give us time to stabilize the organization. This magazine has always been about community and we need you now.
To help, donate to the emergency fundraising campaign and spread the word, Akron.
