It's A Kling Thing! House is where Eleanor: A Zine first came out. This space has given so many creative people from all walks of life a safe and supportive environment to share their work and make friends.
Please donate and/or share to help Akron’s DIY community.

‼️Save “It’s a Kling Thing!” House!‼️
https://gofund.me/9467ebf2

Founded in 2007 by Jordan Welker and friends, It’s a Kling Thing! is one of the longest-running DIY punk houses in the Midwest. Our sacred space has been a staple of underground music for 16 years, and has strong roots not only in the local community, but nationally and internationally as well.

Recently, our landlords—who have rented the house to us for the entirely of its lifespan as Kling Thing—have put the house on the market. This is scary for all of us, because aside from the tenants worrying about where they’ll live, this house is considered a second home by generations of show-goers. Here’s the deal: the landlord said we can try to buy the house if we raise the money. So that’s what we’re going to do. We need to act fast, because there are already potential buyers. We are aiming to raise $135,000 with intent to own the space, protect its legacy, and keep this going for many more years to come.

This is a Hail Mary but we think it could work! We know how many of you love this place. Even if you can’t donate, please share this with everyone you can! We want to share this everywhere, so Ii you know anyone that works for media outlets that might help, please reach out.

We will continue to post updates regularly as time goes forward. Please consider helping us keep a piece of Akron’s fruitful music community in the hands of those who truly care about what it stands for. If we don’t reach our goal, all your donations will be refunded.

“The politicalization of the topic is what's different than what I’ve seen in the past,” said Britten Follett, the chief executive of content at Follett School Solutions, one of the country’s largest providers of books to K-12 schools. “It’s being driven by legislation, it’s being driven by politicians aligning with one side or the other. And in the end, the librarian, teacher or educator is getting caught in the middle.”

Among the most frequent targets are books about race, gender and sexuality, like George M. Johnson’s “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” Jonathan Evison’s “Lawn Boy,” Maia Kobabe’s “Gender Queer” and Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye.”

Challenges to books about sexual and racial identity are nothing new in American schools, but the tactics and politicization are.

The New York Times answers: Doesn’t Roe v. Wade guarantee a woman’s right to abortion? Can the Texas law be challenged on constitutional grounds?

The Texas law bars state officials from actually enforcing it, a design intended to make it difficult to challenge in the courts.

Usually a lawsuit aiming to block such a law as unconstitutional names state officials as defendants. Instead, the Texas law deputizes private citizens to sue anyone who performs an abortion or “aids and abets” a procedure. Plaintiffs who have no connection to the patient or the clinic may sue and recover legal fees, as well as $10,000 if they win.

As a result, the question for the Supreme Court is not whether the law is constitutional, but whether it can be challenged in court.

The law prohibits abortions before many women even know they’re pregnant, and it will be hard to challenge in the courts.

Yesterday, the US House took a historic vote, passing a spending bill without the Hyde and Weldon Amendments — moving us one step closer to eliminating these harmful abortion restrictions for good.

Ending the Hyde Amendment and related abortion restrictions is a racial and economic justice issue, wrote the ACLU on Twitter. Hyde has always been a racist policy aimed at controlling the bodies of people with low incomes and people of color.
