Y-W Electric Association is experiencing outages affecting the Joes, Kirk and Abarr Substations. We have experienced an event resulting in the loss of our transmission feed to these substations. This outage is affecting Southeast Yuma County and Southwest Washington county. Crews have been dispatched to access damage and make repairs. Crews are still working on the outage East of Vernon toward Beecher Island. Y-W Electric is operating automated protective devices on our system in ENHANCED POWERLINE SAFETY SETTINGS due to the present fire danger. This mode will limit our system’s ability to automatically restore any momentary outages. Due to the weather conditions, a visual inspection will be required before reenergization takes place to minimize risk of wildfire ignition. Outage times could be lengthy. Please bear with us as we work through this situation. Call (970) 345-2291 or use your SmartHub app to report any outages, and visit https://www.ywelectric.coop/outage-center for up-to-date outage information.

⚠️ Attention Y-W Electric Members ⚠️
Strong winds are forecasted for Thursday and Friday in Yuma and Washington Counties. To reduce the risk of wildfire ignition during these conditions, Y-W Electric Association is placing our electric system into Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings.
What does this mean?
This safety mode is designed to lower fire risk if a power line is damaged. If a power line trips (shuts off), Y-W Electric crews will not re-energize the line until the entire affected line has been visually inspected for damage.
How could this affect you?
Members may experience longer outages than usual. Inspections can take additional time due to:
• Difficult-to-access line locations
• Weather conditions that slow inspections
Why we’re doing this
Our goal is to continue providing reliable electric service during high wind event while taking responsible steps to reduce wildfire risk and protect our communities.
How you can prepare
We encourage members to evaluate their individual situations and prepare for the possibility of an extended outage, especially if:
• You rely on electricity for medical needs
• You raise livestock or operate essential equipment
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our members and communities safe.
