I've fallen so in love with the process. It's what feels like creating a new auditory ecosystem each time I sit down to make a song. The hi hats are chittering birds perched in a maple tree. The organs are the soft drone of the wind cutting through highway noise. The kick drum is the sound of my feet stomping the dirt trail as I walk. In C.S. Lewis' novels "The Chronicles of Narnia", Aslan the lion sings into existence the stars, sun, mountains, valleys, and rivers. All creations of his world blossom into reality through music. In truth, this is where I decided to title my stage name as Aslan. My songs are short glimpses of worlds that exist in my head, manifested through any instrument, sample, and recording device I can get my hands on. Honestly i don't care whether or not producing music becomes my full time job. Simply being able to do it at all will scratch the itch just enough to feel the joy of creation.

imo The Legend of Zelda has some of the most beautiful pieces of music and I love this song so much I made a lo-fi beat out of it, "Zelda's Lo-fi Lullaby". In all seriousness I would love to compose music for somebody's video game so game developers HMU and let's chat!

I have a dilemma. I absolutely love the work I do and I'm passionate about it. My problem is that I often find myself failing to pause and look around at life, to stop working and simply notice the feeling of being here and now. It's all too tempting to keep up with the grind of the industry and do things to put my business a step ahead but it's so important to have moments like the one I'm sharing in this video. This was from hike we took during my best friend's bachelor party/camping trip last fall. I remember feeling an intense relief that suddenly after taking this video my phone died (we had no electricity in the cabin). No more calls! No more emails! No more notifications! It was a blessing. I've been doing my best lately to drag myself out of the studio between projects to spend time outside, make more time with my loved ones, and also reflecting on why I do this in the first place. Your life is far more than just the work you do.
