This teacher has gone viral for going live while allowing young ladies from his school to assist in taking his hair down. There has been plenty of praise for his relationship with his students as well as criticism from some who feel this is innapropriate. Weigh in!!

I wrote the book “Talking Points” to be a resource for single mothers to have tough conversations with their sons. Now, it has become a resource to educators to give you a glimpse of the occurrences that take place in the homes of many black and brown students. We discuss hygiene, s*x, police, violence, emotions, education and more. Principal is speaking to the book study we did with her entire teaching staff where her student population is 99% black. Be sure to listen to her entire episode. Visit www.dearwhiteteacher.com where you can download a free chapter of the book “Talking Points” OR purchase the entire book “Talking Points” on the site as well.

I am Brandon R. Scarborough and I was asked why should you listen to the dear white teacher podcast? Why should you listen to the dear white teacher course? Why should you listen to me? I answered in the video LOL! But seriously, I love what I do. I love helping, cultivating, shaping, and molding teachers and students. I dove into this lane on purpose because I know that there are white teachers yearning for information and strategies on building and maintaining relationships with black and brown students and much more that won’t come by way of sitting in a room with hundreds of teachers and never getting to ask questions you need answers to. I provide an intimate and safe space to learn, ask questions, and share experiences without judgment or criticism. Visit dearwhiteteacher.com today and take the course. It’s short and inexpensive. Why? Because I respect your time and your money!

We celebrate teachers this week!!!! Many of you have made it through a whole pandemic and returned to classrooms and had to adapt to new challenges and what some would call a new normal even as others seek to find what normal even looks like anymore. You are appreciated and please be encouraged. You are necessary and valuable! Keep using your superpowers and make impact in the communities and classrooms that you serve!

We hear often of white teachers who go to college, do their student teaching and they do so in classrooms and schools where everyone looks like them. Upon graduation, the fastest job to get is teaching in an urban school where the majority population is black and brown students, and teachers are now scrambling to figure out how to engage this population and seeing personalities and traumas that they have never experienced.

Can anyone resonate with this? How can we change this narrative?

Dr. House shares her thoughts on how student teaching should be more reflective of every environment, especially urban classrooms where teachers are usually able to find jobs quickly after finishing college. Dr. House was our guest on episode 8 called "Non-negotiables in the classroom." Be sure to check out the whole episode!

What are your thoughts on student teaching? Did your experience give you a full view of how diverse classrooms really are?

I had the awesome opportunity to lead professional development sessions with teachers, counselors, and educators at Walsh Jesuit High School speaking on relationship building strategies with students of color. We had an absolute blast. I don’t get a pic with my first group but I enjoyed them all the same. It was extremely dope!
