Alumni from the class of 2024 recently received an email from the Office of Information Technology informing them that they will lose access to their ONU email onAugust 2, 2025. However, an attached “FAQ” document provided a different date: February 3, 2025 — six months earlier.

Ohio Northern invited the “sophisti-pop” band StarWound to perform at the annual English Reading Series in Presser Hall. In addition to providing live entertainment for the audience, the musical trio also adapted three poems written by creative writing students and professors into a musical performance.

On Saturday, October 19th, the team faced Capital University at Kerscher Stadium and played a strong game. Senior Emma Bowman tied the game in the second half with a free kick after a long period without scores from either team. Even though Capital scored the leading point at the end of the game and won 2-1, the Polar Bears displayed a strong defense and constantly kept the ball moving down the field.

In a move that has left many Ada residents scrambling for their prescriptions, the Rite Aid on Main Street has officially closed following the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Students who frequent the university recreational path, the Green Monster, have likely noticed them: a series of four medium-size, bluish metal sculptures depicting aquatic wildlife in cross-section. Perhaps even more notable, however, is what’s missing: at the time of writing, there are no physical signs, plaques, or inscriptions on or around the sculptures indicating their origin or meaning.

After a decade of advising Northern Review, Dr. Shane Tilton has mentored many budding journalists during their time at the university. He has outlined what are, in his opinion, some of the school newspaper’s most defining articles in the past ten years.

“I have had more than a hundred students over that time give their energy and passion to this humble organization,” wrote Dr. Tilton. “It seems appropriate now to highlight the stories that encapsulate the spirit of collegiate journalism at Ohio Northern University.”

Compared to the 2023 cohort, Ohio Northern University’s 2024 first-year class of students has increased in size by over 16%, according to a recent University press release. The release places the total incoming class size at “almost 700.”

2023 has been an exciting year for Northern Review. We have more than doubled our viewership to 20,760 with 8,708 unique visitors. We have also won several awards (some of these are for work done during the 2022 calendar year, but the natural delay in the awards process causes recognition to be pushed into 2023). While we appreciate the external attention and recognition, the student body remains our top priority going into 2024. We cannot thank you enough for your support and engagement, and we hope to continue fostering productive dialogue on campus about the issues that are most important to you.
