Outbreak Investigation of Hepatitis A Virus: Strawberrie

The FDA, along with CDC, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, state, and local partners are investigating a multistate outbreak of hepatitis A infections in the United States and Canada potentially linked to fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo and HEB, purchased between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022.

Currently, the potentially affected FreshKampo and HEB products are past shelf life. People who purchased FreshKampo and HEB fresh organic strawberries between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022, and then froze those strawberries for later consumption should not eat them. These products were sold at the following retailers, including, but not limited to:

Aldi
HEB
Kroger
Safeway
Sprouts Farmers Market
Trader Joe’s
Walmart
Weis Markets
WinCo Foods
If you are unsure of what brand you purchased, when you purchased your strawberries, or where you purchased them from prior to freezing them, the strawberries should be thrown away.

Epidemiologic and traceback data show that fresh organic strawberries sold as FreshKampo and HEB brands that were purchased between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022, are a likely cause of illness in this outbreak. The traceback investigations show that cases in California, Minnesota, and Canada report having purchased fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo or HEB prior to becoming ill. Illness onset dates range from March 28 – April 30, 2022.

As this investigation is ongoing, additional products may be included. More information will be provided in this advisory as it becomes available.

Recommendation
Consumers, restaurants, and retailers should not sell, serve, or eat any fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo or HEB if purchased between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022. People who purchased the fresh strawberries and then froze those strawberries for later consumption should not eat them. They should be thrown away. Currently, the potentially affected product is past its shelf life. If you are unsure of what brand you purchased, when you purchased your strawberries, or where you purchased them from prior to freezing them, the strawberries should be thrown away.

If consumers purchased fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo or HEB between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022, ate those berries in the last two weeks, and have not been vaccinated against hepatitis A, they should immediately consult with their healthcare professional to determine whether post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is needed. PEP is recommended for unvaccinated people who have been exposed to hepatitis A virus in the last two weeks because vaccination can prevent a hepatitis A infection if given within 14 days of exposure. Those with evidence of previous hepatitis A vaccination or previous hepatitis A infection do not require PEP.

Contact your healthcare provider if you think you may have symptoms of a hepatitis A infection after eating these fresh organic strawberries, or if you believe that you have eaten these strawberries in the last two weeks.

The Uvalde Police Department and the Uvalde Independent School District police force are no longer cooperating with the Texas Department of Public Safety's investigation into the massacre at Robb Elementary School and the state's review of the law enforcement response, multiple law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

A spokesman for Texas DPS, which is running the state's investigations, declined to comment.

According to sources, the decision to stop cooperating occurred soon after the director of DPS, Col. Steven McCraw, held a news conference Friday during which he said the delayed police entry into the classroom was "the wrong decision" and contrary to protocol.

US President Joe Biden says he won't send rockets to Ukraine that could reach Russia
US President Joe Biden said on Monday that he would not send rockets to Ukraine that could hit targets inside Russian territory. While Ukraine has received extensive military aid, it says it needs the long-range rockets equivalent to what Moscow’s forces use. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military is continuing its efforts to hold off Russian advances in the eastern Donbas region.

Zoolute Rescheduled

We will be rescheduling the Zooloute event, scheduled for May 21st, for a later date. This will allow our first responders and members of our military community to focus on the Mesquite Heat wildfire. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the Big Country families that have been affected by this wildfire. Although we are cancelling our Zoolute, we will still honor anyone with an active, retired, or dependent ID to be allowed free admission to the Abilene Zoo on May 21st. Once rescheduled, we will once again honor this admission offer along with free food sponsored by H-E-B and a ceremony featuring leadership from Dyess Airforce Base.

Marjorie Taylor Greene temporarily locked out of Twitter as Democrats move to expel her from Congress
Oliver O'Connell
In a message on social media site Telegram on Friday morning, Marjorie Taylor Greene said that she had been temporarily barred from posting on Twitter from her personal account.

A screenshot of an alert says that Twitter has temporarily limited some of her account features for violating the site’s rules, meaning that the Georgia representative was unable to tweet, retweet, or like posts.

A spokesperson for Ms Greene confirmed to The Gateway Pundit on Friday that the lawmaker was locked out. The ban did not include Ms Greene’s separate congressional Twitter account.

It was unclear which specific tweets led to the suspension, but later on Friday a spokesperson for Twitter told The Hill that the action had been taken in error.

“We use a combination of technology and human review to enforce the Twitter Rules across the service,” the spokesperson said. “In this case, our automated systems took enforcement action on the account referenced in error. This action has been reversed, and access to the account has been reinstated.”

Ms Greene’s office linked the timing of the suspension to Representative Jimmy Gomez’s resolution to expel Ms Greene from Congress, which he introduced to the house on Friday morning.

Citywide Tornado Drill Set for Wednesday, March 31st

Citywide tornado drill set for march 31 at 10am

The City of Abilene will issue a mock tornado warning through CodeRED® (free telephone emergency notification system) at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

Residents, businesses, schools, and assisted living/nursing homes are urged to now review their tornado preparedness plan, or create a plan if one isn’t already in place, and participate in the drill on March 31st.

The drill is designed to bring attention to the threats posed by weather hazards and reduce the loss of life, injury, and property in the event of severe weather.

It is also recommended that individuals have more than one way to receive weather warnings; such as a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) All-Hazards Radio, public radio and television, and CodeRED® notification. The March 31st drill is also a great time for individuals to make sure their NOAA All-Hazards Radio is correctly programmed to receive warnings from the National Weather Service.

Residents can sign-up for CodeRED® Weather Warning at www.abilenetx.gov or by texting ABITAYTX to 99411.

The March 31st drill will satisfy Abilene’s CMS requirement for a citywide exercise. If documentation is needed, please email [email protected].

Disneyland is reopening, but Texans can't go. Why thou??

If you're thinking of ways to spend your stimmy, you're going to hold off on spending it at Disneyland, as least for now.

Disneyland announced they will reopen on April 30th, according to Forbes. But, it really is going to be a 'small world after all' in the theme park as they will only open at 15 percent capacity and to California residents only.

The strict rules fall in line with the state’s “red tier” guidelines for COVID-19.

The opening however, is good news for Disney employees. Forbes reports more than 10,000 Disneyland employees will return to work. Disney theme park employees have seen significant cuts as the company laid off 32,000 employees in the U.S. parks division.
