RESIDENTS DECRY DEADLY STATE OF NABUYONGA RISE ROAD IN MBALE CITY
Residents and road users of Nabuyonga Rise in Mbale City have expressed grave concerns about the hazardous state of the road near Hared Petrol Station.
They revealed that the road is riddled with large potholes, which have caused numerous accidents involving boda boda riders and vehicles.
According to the residents, the situation worsens during rainy weather when the potholes become harder to see, leading to frequent falls by boda boda riders, some of which have resulted in fatalities.
"We are in serious danger. At any moment, vehicles could lose control and crash into us," said residents who work near the potholes.
The residents are urgently appealing to the Mbale City Council to take immediate action. "If no action is taken, we will either plant banana plantations in the potholes or block the road," they vowed.
Nabuyonga Rise was constructed under the USMID program and was officially commissioned by the president.
However, the road began to deteriorate after heavy trucks were diverted to use it. This has caused severe damage, leaving the road in its current dangerous state.
The residents are calling for swift intervention to prevent further accidents and loss of life.

*Mbale City Council Begins 1.6-Kilometer Road Construction in Nauyo*
Mbale City Council has embarked on the construction of a 1.6-kilometer road in Nauyo, stretching from Tororo Road to just past Light Primary School, and connecting to Mutoto.
This year, the work will focus on the drainage system, and the road will be compacted with murram. However, in the next financial year, the road will be tarmacked, financed by the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program.
Residents of Nauyo have welcomed this new infrastructure project, which comes after the area was incorporated into the city.
According to Mbale City Public Relations Officer, Kutosi James, the council has not demolished any properties without prior consultation. Most property owners along the road voluntarily removed their structures after several engagements with the council. By the time construction began, all parties had reached an agreement.
However, as in any society, there are some who disagree with the development. For this reason, security was deployed to maintain order during the process. Kutosi acknowledged that while the project has affected some residents, he is confident they will ultimately benefit from the new road once it is completed.
"You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs. Similarly, you can’t have development and improved transportation in Nauyo, where there is a high population, without removing illegal structures built in the road reserve," Kutosi stated.
He further revealed that the structures being removed were either condemned or lacked proper city-approved plans, and thus were illegal. Some individuals, referred to as "fraudsters," had been collecting money from residents, falsely claiming they could stop the road construction.
Kutosi reassured residents that the city council is aware of these fraudulent activities and will address them.
During the ongoing roadworks, a court order was issued to halt the process, but construction i

*Kevinah Nabutuwa Announces Bid for Bududa Woman MP Seat, Vows to Restore District’s Lost Glory*
As the 2026 general elections approach in Uganda, many candidates are stepping forward to seek political positions at various levels.
Among them, Kevinah Nabutuwa, a native of Bududa District, has announced her candidacy for the Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat.
She aims to restore what she calls the “lost glory” of Bududa.
“The people of Bududa have urged me to contest for the Woman MP seat, citing several unresolved issues.
Despite the Bududa Ring Road being passed in every budget, there has been a lack of follow-up by the current leadership.
As a result, the road’s construction has not been completed,” Nabutuwa explained.
She also highlighted the poor state of education and healthcare in the district, despite the presence of leadership.
“I have come to set things right in our beloved Bududa District,” Nabutuwa stated.
In her address to the media today, September 15, 2024, she called on the people of Bududa to rally behind her to reclaim the district’s dignity and bring about meaningful change.
