AKOGO FESTIVAL is a prime cultural event in the Teso Sub-region with the objective of promoting Iteso culture and Akogo music.

*AKOGO FESTIVAL END OF YEAR MESSAGE*
As we mark 8 years since we launched the implementation of our dream for the revival of our culture through Akogo Festival, we express our gratitude to all of you who have supported the course.
2025 comes with huge plans as we mark the 8 year journey of celebrating our culture through Akogo Festival platforms both online and live events across Teso and beyond.
We thank all the groups, participants, well-wishers, opinion leaders and all those connected by this beauty of Iteso culture across, we wouldn’t be where we are without your involvement. You have given us courage to strive much more in making this a unique factor in our lives. May we live to witness the rise of the might of culture taking us to future with unity, love and prosperity.
From Akogo Festival management team, we wish you a prosperous new year 2025 and we look forward to more wonderful years ahead of embracing the Iteso culture.

Akogo Experience Yoga Teso Kere, Emuria Koliai....

Old is Gold... 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑨𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆 (Eastern Uganda) One of the legends of akogo music from Teso, Patrick Atude brings his whole group of tiny and large thumb pianos to play the original version of his hit song ‘Emali’ and the rest of his high-spirited repertoire.

Patrick Atude hails from Ariet village in Kumi district, Eastern Uganda, one of the hotbeds of akogo music and its tightly layered melodies played on a mix of large and tiny thumb pianos, an instrument locally known as akogo that graces cultural and official functions of the Iteso. Starting his musical journey in the 1960s, Atude is not only a ‘mzee’ (a respectful way to address elders in Uganda) and veteran of this music, but also one of its legends as the original composer of the song ‘Emali’, which rose to new heights when it was reinterpreted by the Ugandan popular group Afrigo band. This year, Nyege Nyege Festival collaborates with the Akogo Festival to invite mzee Atude and his whole akogo band to bring the original flavours of his large repertoire and the song ‘Emali’ that highlights the benefits of childbearing and the value of education.
