ATGWU TRAINS SHOP STEWARDS IN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Shop stewards play a vital role in a unionized workplace by being responsible for ensuring that the rights of workers are protected and that management adheres to the terms of its collective bargaining agreement
It’s upon this background that Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union ATGWU
Initiated training course that examines the role of stewardship in the workplace
ATGWU General Secretary Stephen Abiima said the the training is to help participants understand the role and functions of Shop Stewards in facilitating good relationship between management and unions to ensure sound labour relations

THE EQUITY BANK SAGA ON MULTI BILLION FRAUD, DETAILS CONTINUE TO UNFOLD AS THE POLICE INVESTIGATION INTO A MASSIVE UGX 65 GET NEW LINKS
The crime investigations directorate CID working closely with the anti-fraud team at Equity bank has so far charged eight people for allegedly obtaining money by false pretenses, money laundering, and conspiracy to fraud equity bank with money amounting to UGX 65 billion.
The accused persons include Julius Musiime, Elina Nabisubi, Crescent Tumuhimbise, Fred Ssemwogerere, Wycliffe Asiimwe, Robert Mugumya, Fred Kato and Ronald Mukwaya.

ILO TASK UGANDA ON LABOUR RIGHTS ABUSE
The international labour organization ILO is tasking Uganda government on labour rights violation.
ILO is calling on Uganda government to work with the labour unions to formulate and implement coherent, comprehensive, consistent, and transparent policies in line with international labour standards, for better protection of workers’ rights
Uganda government will this year appear before the ILO Committee of Standards to explain failure to enact a Minimum Wage and for floating employment minimum age.
While meeting officials from the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Uganda Trade Union leaders including Workers Members of Parliament, NOTU Executive Board and affiliates condemned a court ruling on Stanbic Bank case that permits termination of employment contracts without reason; they recommended forwarding the matter to ILO law experts for further scrutiny

Wrangles between taxi operators of Kireka have created tension with escalated disputes over working space
Members of Kireka Drivers and Conductors Agaliawamu Association are accusing their counterparts of Kireka Twezimbe Taxi Drivers and Conductors Association for discrimination and harassment and denial to operate alongside them
The clash over alleged mismanagement of the kireka taxi park has been ongoing for the last two year causing too much tension in the area
This attracted the intervention of National Union of Drivers cyclists and Allied workers and Uganda Taxi operators Federation kira Municipality local leaders and police to resolve the matter

Lack of clear national policy on waste management, insufficient budgets and infrastructure, weak strategic planning, low staff capacity, poor information systems and unorganized waste management and high fee collection systems are major challenges affecting effective public service delivery on waste management.
Public Services International (PSI) Unions are calling on Uganda government to enact a coherent national policy on waste management to regulate various waste management practices such as increased disposal, segregation, modification, recycling, landfilling, incineration and treatment

EMPOWERING GIRL CHILD THROUGH EDUCATION
In a gratifying gesture of generosity through its holistic approach Dabani old girls Association has donated scholastic materials to the current learners of the School in Busia District
The Items worth millions of shillings included mattresses and sanitary pads to support the education of needy students.
Dabani Old Girls Association president Esther cozen Makanga said the association is dedicated to promoting girls' education by providing scholastics and offering mentorship programs, all aimed at encouraging girls to pursue their education and aspire to leadership roles.
Most of the girls at Dabani Girls Secondary School with enrollment of about 300 students have been grappling with a lack of enough essential school supplies, hindering the pupils’ ability to study effectively

Teachers under their national umbrella labour Union the Uganda National Teacher's Union (UNATU) have re-echoed salary increment demands of Arts/Humanities teachers for the financial year 2024/2025.
UNATU General Secretary Filbert Baguma says previous discriminatory tendencies in salary enhancement within the teaching fraternity breed disunity, demoralized the rest of the teachers and affected staff team work.
Last year government increased salaries for scientists, effective this financial year all graduate science teachers started earning Shs 4 million while their colleagues in the medical field at the same level bag Shs 5m
