What else is better then sleeping under a mosquitonet which is “cool”

Sleeping under a mosquitonet is boring and gives you a bad feeling since you are reminded at mosquito’s and other dangerous insects. Thinking about this it is logical that nets are used as fishing nets, used for wedding dresses and used in the garden to protect chicken or crops.
TWIGA wanted to put added value on mosquitonets in Uganda to stimulate people to use them for what they are produced for: Hanging around a bed to protect you against mosquito’s and other insects, without a direct feeling of danger. So we started to do an experiment by printing nice pictures on mosquitonets. After 3 years monitoring of our nets in the Northern of Uganda we found after 3 years (the lifespan of a net) significantly more nets used as bednets (around 80 %) than normal nets (around 20 %).
The next step is to distribute together with Rotary clubs, Malaria Consortium and The Ministry of Health Uganda 1.000.000 nets through schools for children between 8 and 14 years old, to stimulate them to use a net with a “cool” picture on it.
