Singing policeman wins South Africa Idols contest
A police officer has been crowned this year's winner of South Africa’s version of the global music show Idols.

Warrant Officer Thapelo Molomo, 29, beat 10 other contesters as the season came to a close on Sunday night.

He fell to the floor and prayed onstage after he was announced the winner.

"Thank you so much to everyone that has voted for me... I'm grateful for what you have done for me. If it's possible with me, it can be possible with you," he later said.

The country’s police minister attended the finale and congratulated the officer saying: "The officer serves as an inspiration to police officers across the country to believe in their talents as they serve and protect the nation”.
Mr. Molomo walked away with about 1m rands ($58,000; £49,000) in prize money.

He said he will return to his police work, but South Africans on Twitter were not convinced, given the wide range of other prizes he won including a recording deal and a car.

Uganda's leader condemns West over climate change

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has accused Western countries of reprehensible double standards when it comes to commitments to stop climate change.

In a post on social media, Mr. Museveni highlighted the partial dismantling of a wind farm in Germany to make way for the expansion of a coal mine.

He said the move made a mockery of Western commitments towards climate targets.

The Ugandan leader also said European countries were happy to take Africa's resources for their own energy needs but were against the development of fossil fuel projects which were for the benefit of Africans.

Uganda is due to start exporting oil within three years.

Due to the global energy crisis, some European countries have recently decided to increase coal production - a move heavily criticized by climate change activists.

Turkey's Bayraktar TB2 drone: Why African states are buying them

African states are increasingly acquiring Turkish drones to fight armed groups after they proved to be effective in various conflicts around the world, writes analyst Paul Melly.

As Ukraine stepped up its initial fightback against Russia's invasion, and long before Western heavy artillery and rocket launchers started to arrive, there was one weapon that the Kyiv government could already deploy - the Bayraktar TB2 drone.

This Turkish-made weapon had already proved its effectiveness in helping Azerbaijan defeat Armenian armoured forces and sn**ch back extensive territory in the Nagorno-Karabakh war of 2020.

But admirers of the drone's capabilities are not confined to eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

Recent weeks have seen a consignment of Bayraktar TB2s delivered to the West African state of Togo, which is struggling to curb the infiltration of jihadist fighters moving south from Burkina Faso.

While in May, Niger acquired half a dozen of these versatile and affordable drones for its military operations against insurgent groups in the Sahel region south of the Sahara Desert, and around Lake Chad.

Other African customers have included Ethiopia, Morocco and Tunisia, while Angola has also expressed interest.

But the first to use these potent surveillance and strike weapons on the continent may well have been the UN-recognised government in Libya - where whey were spotted as early as 2019 and may have helped Tripoli's forces hold off eastern rebels.

For African buyers, especially poorer countries, drones provide the chance to develop significant air power without the vast cost in equipment and years of elite training required to develop a conventional air strike force of manned jets.

This is a particular attraction for states such as Niger and Togo.

They face the complex challenge of curbing highly motivated and mobile bands of Islamist militants, camping out in the bush and moving quickly through the scrubby terrain of the Sahel by motorbike to stage ambushes and surprise attacks on isolated army and gendarmerie posts, border crossings and civilian communities.

Airtel announces shs3.4bn in first interest payment to its mobile money customers

Telecom company, Airtel Uganda has through its mobile money business, Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited (AMCUL) announced that they will pay interest to the tune of shs3.4 billion on customers’ daily balances for the past 91 days.

Following the approval of the Trustees of Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited by the regulator, Bank of Uganda, AMCUL has begun the payment of interest on quarterly balances to over 18 million customers that have an Airtel Money account with AMCUL.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by AMCUL Managing Director, Japhet Aritho at their headquarters in Kampala.

According to Aritho, Interest is earned by any customer who has a minimum of one shilling and above daily for 91 days between April – June 2022.

He noted that the more daily balance the customer has, the better opportunity to share on the total interest earned by AMCUL as approved by the Board of Trustees and BOU.

“We are committed to delivering on our promise to share the economic value generated by this business. We will continue to share this value with our partners, customers, and communities for the transformation of our country,”Aritho said.

“Today we are paying interest to over 20 million accounts that include Airtel Customers, franchise partners, and over 150,000 agents. Customers whose accounts have been dormant for up to 14 months will also receive
interest on their balances but will need to activate their accounts before they can redeem their money.”

He noted that the company believes the interest payment will ignite a culture of digital transactions on mobile wallets like Airtel Money in the country.

“I encourage individuals and small business owners to continue making digital transactions and save on our SupaSaver account that pays 5% interest. I also encourage them to use our Airtel Merchant Pay that helps them separate personal finances from business finances.”

Persons living with HIV/Aids decry ARV stock outs in health facilities

Persons Living with HIV/Aids have decried the persistent stock outs of ARVs in several health facilities across the country.

They claim for the last four to five months there has been a crisis of absence of third-line ARVs and patients have experienced a lot of difficulties in adhering to the life saving treatment.

The ministry of Health however refuted the allegations.

Addressing the media yesterday, People Living with HIV/Aids and civil society organisations said the ARV shortage had directly affected over 2,500 patients in this category.

They said whenever they visit health facilities to get these drugs they are either given second line ARV drugs or sent away by medical workers.Third line drugs such as Raltegravir and Darunavir are said to have run out in many facilities putting patients at risk of getting opportunistic infections due to their comprised immunity.

Emmanuel Ainebyona, the spokesperson of ministry of Health said there was no such scarcity and all health facilities have the necessary drugs.

He said the only time they had challenges in distribution was when the National Medical Stores was undergoing stocktaking between June and July but the situation has since normalised.

“The entire ARVs chain [first, second and third line] is available. May be the alleged stock out was when NMS was stocktaking between June 24 and July 15th,” Ainebyoona said.

Uganda has over 1.5 million people living with HIV and many of these are enrolled onto ARVs.

Compassionate Capitalism: Black Wall Street Sets up Professionals' on-Boarding Unit

Black Wall Street is leading Africa’s first economic war for economic independence which is a movement to grossly reduce poverty and underdevelopment in the continent through the introduction and implementation of compassionate capitalism programs in 28 key sectors working with relevant professionals in the sectors.

Professionals’ on-boarding is therefore the recruitment, orientation, and productive assimilation of these professionals into the Black Wall Street platform so they can contribute their expertise in the remaking of these 28 sectors.

The BWS platform is the acronym for the Black Wall Street platform which comprises 28 Apps, 28 Satellite TV stations, an Economic Social Media, and a Pan African jobs portal all linked together inside one platform with the sole purpose of reducing global poverty, injustices and discrimination by introducing and implementing compassionate capitalism programs in 28 basic human needs sectors.

The Internal and External Counsels are the primary coordinators of the professionals’ on-boarding operations conducting the 7 Areas functions through first and foremost understanding the programs the target professionals are coming to be part of, generating leads of needed professionals through social media advertising, use of the Black Wall Street platform to work with the professionals, engagement of the professional prospects to understand what they have to do on the platform, monitor and direct the productivity of the professionals they add on the platform, financial management of their activities through the platform and teaching same to the professionals coming on board and ensuring a constant increase in economic war knowledge for themselves and the professionals they have on-boarded.

The Internal Counsels work full-time from the BWS House while the External Counsels work part-time from home across various African jurisdictions.

The newly set up Professionals’ on-boarding unit of the BWS consisting of 5,050 employees covering the 100,000 Pan African Job centres has been charged with the immediate recruitment, orientation, and productive assimilation of nurses to help overhaul the health and elderly care sectors in Africa, accountants to transform the poor access to capital for entrepreneurs and communities, purchase and supply professionals to help local manufactures fight foreign domination, lawyers to create a more accountable economic environment and many more.

In the multi-faced Africa’s first economic war for economic independence led by King Charles N. Lambert of the Black Wall Street, the Professionals’ on-boarding unit seems to be the pivotal facet that drives the overall quest for the transformation of Africa and
